Imo, the Ext Maint program will be a close push for itself with an oil change and brake job. At 46K, you are bumping the ceiling, brake
wear-wise, I'd guess. Even my barely adequate Stlr didn't bat any eye when I needed new brakes, with just miles to go on my one year ExtMaint deal. You might look at a one year deal, about 1200 bucks, if you shop hard... With all that said, you do raise a decent point/consideration: for "only" brake pads and rotors, you might find a good indie for that and, save a few quid by skipping it. A warranty-less X5, however, might be a different consideration, if you are keeping the car another couple-three years. GL,mD

I don't know this to be fact, but I believe the dealer still gets paid for warranty work - by BMW, so the dealer should not hesitate to do it. Anyone know for sure?

You are basically paying for a brake job in advance--ask your rep--that is the way they advertise it. You get some peace of mind, oil changes, free loaners, no hassels, etc. They also know what makes your car run like new, in my opinion. That is worth the money. . .

Thanks for all your input. I am going to purchase both the extended maintenance contract and the warranty. $4,200 for both less $300 discount for buying at the same time.

Umm, you're forgetting the 60K and 90K maintenance on the ride. Way more then the cost of the maintenance agreement.
