HOw long have you had them? I'm looking for someone that's put some miles on them too. All tires are quiet for the first 5k miles ;)

Are there signs of any cupping or feathering on the tyres?

Interested here aswell. I am debating between Dunlop SP9000 sport, Diamaris and Yokohama. How important is the tire weight ? Maybe not an issue on a 4.8is, but on my 3.0 diesel maybe.

the higher performance the tire the louder it will be...no way around it it is just the way it goes man. the diamaris are a lot quieter then any yoko I have ever driven on...the continential may be a decent choice but I have not driven on them traditionally they are a quiet tire

but quiet with tons of grip just doesnt happen your tires will always be louder due primarily to the larger tread blocks on a perofmance tire the only way to get wicked grip and a quiet tire is to get some racing slicks and they dont make them in this fitment not to mention they go like shit in the rain.

I disagree

I disagree. I've owned lots of performance cars over the years, and some tires are just louder than others in the same size. As a for instance, Pirelli PZeros on one of my 911's were MUCH louder than the Continentals they replaced at the same mileage.

Another factor here seems to be that these SAV's are very susceptible to alignment causing tire wear noise. Most likely because the slightest imperfection in alignment wears the same tire funny forever, because you don't rotate them.

Not sure I'm interested in getting an alignment every few months, so maybe loud tires just becomes a fact of life :bawling:

When I was poking around on the net looking for some feedback about other cars (eg reliability) I came across a whole heap of Nissan 350Z owners who are complaining of tyre roar and premature wear.

I also came across heaps of E60 owners with the same complaints.

Some of it is down to suspension load/geometry while others have been under inflating, and some brands appear to have bad batches (eg 1st run flats).

The 350 Z owners are only getting 10k out of a set, whereas the E60 owners around 25k, but they all complain about the same thing, being feathering or cupping.

You can buff the tyres to get it out but you'd want to find out why it's happening first I reckon, if indeed it has at all.

I have around 33k on my tyres and they don't make a sound, and I checked 'em closely and they are fine.

Cheers

Diamaris - Second set

I drove the original Michelin Diamaris (4.4 - 9"-10" stagger setup 19s) for 11k miles before the noise drove me crazy. The harmonics were so bad at 70mph that it was like riding in a washing machine on spin cycle. The dealer convinced me that the tires were cupped from too much driving below highway speeds (told me that the X5 is simply not set up to be driven below 60-70mph and that was clearly causing tread-wear issues). So I bought a new set and front/rear alignment from the dealer... $1800 total....not a move I am likely to ever repeat.

10,000 miles later, I am back in the same situation, but have switched over to 9X19 Pirelli Ice and Snows for the winter. I am actually dreading the spring as I know that I will have to return to my noisy, oscillating pitch tires. (BTW, Lakeshore Wheel and Tire was simply awesome in getting me hooked up with my winter setup..... 2 days from order to delivery).

I actually saved my first set as they had plenty of tread on them and may be needed in 18 months if I need something to help pass the end of lease inspection. If the cupping is truly on the outside edge, is there anything that can be done to the tire to get more "quiet" miles out of them? Also, since I now hate Diamaris, keep your suggestions coming on brand/make as I may be buying yet another set of tires in the spring...............
