stinky, i mean STINKY AC
 

who else got this foul problem? i'm talking smelly feet, boiled fish, rotting cabbage action when i change from AC to fan to AC.

wow, i took this girl on a date. blasting AC all day. she wanted to turn it down. i couldn't. shoot, i wasn't. but she did it herself. well, that was that.

suggestions? background history? remedy?

Did you try replacing the filter? You likely have some sort of mold growing and you need to get rid of it somehow.

There are sprays for the vents; stlr will do it or sell you some. Doubtful on long term fix...or, you can go from A/C or Auto to manual and no a/c for a few mins as you near desitnation: this reduces the flow of funky air and bacteria spawning in system;

I realize that is Not convenient and only slows or slightly reduces
the prob.
Running on Auto and ReCirc seems to exacerbate the situ. Some
posters report worse situ than others. Complete cures are diff.

Do you run around with your A/C on recirculation all the time?? If so, as MD noted, that might be a larger cause of your problem. There are sprays you can purchase that will kill the mold (which is what you are smelling).

The other thing you can do is a few minutes before you know you are going to shut the car down, turn OFF the A/C. This will give enough time to dry out the moisture in the system and prevent mold from growing.

yeah, but i also heard (if not not mistaken) that there was some sort of defect.... not sure my friend often bullsh!ts. he said that that all BMW have that problem. no fix for it. can someone confirm this?

other than changing the filters very regularly, we're stuck. if that's the case, is there a brand or type that can remedy?

even on a brand new car.... please report your findings! i'd appreciate it. even though us norcalers dont use much AC, when we do, we need it to be clean smelling!

My 330xi has a smell sometimes, but that's only if I leave it on recirculate... I leave it on auto recirculate now, and it's gone.

Check your local dealer and ask if they use the Wynns Aircromatic Ultrasonic Cleaner. That and a microfilter change should do the trick.

Does anyone have a DIY writeup on how to change the cabin air filter? Is it easy or hard?
