Get the tranny looked at if its doing anything out of the ordinary.
Missed shifts, weird noises, lunges or anything.
Mine just went(119000km) and its costing me 6500 for a new one.
4k for a rebuild.

Just found out 1 hour ago its going to cost another 1200 for a torque converter too.

Congrats, I have the same year X5... and I love it.
sence I bought mine with 48,000 miles I changed out ac fan speed regulator and aux fan moter.

I just love to drive my X5 :boogie:

Hal88.. Crankvent hoses are not covered under CPO.. They are under factory warrenty though..

Agree with transmission!!! Tell them something is wrong and see what they say ;)

I have the same year and model. I love mine too. Check the CV boots for cracks, especially the front ones. Battery could be replaced if it's the original. Welcome

I know it's the dead of winter but run your A/C. I had a problem with the A/C on my '01. It never blew cold air. They changed the aux fan motor but there was something else? They never did get it right.

ac fan motor, otherwise known as the final stage resistor - 2 crankcase hoses are ~30mm dia between the engine and the firewall, replace if they feel soft and flexible (they grow thin over time) - really would help if you could get a copy of what's been done prior to your ownership - I keep all my work orders with each of my X5s - the rear wiper arm needs to be replaced with the modern "hook" arm to accept aftermarket wipers (Bosch Icons work very well) - Good luck with yours - my 2001 is actually more fun to drive than my 2006

I have noticed that the steering feels really heavy. I have driven newer models prior to this one and find that I can drive it with one hand comfortably but with the '01 it seems I need both hands to drive and especially to turn. Is this normal for this year or is this something I should question. I drive alot of road coarses on the track and have been taught to leave my hands at 3 and 9 and have found that at this position I never need to lift my hands to adjust them on the steering wheel when making even sharp turns. This is NOT possible with the way the '01 is currently driving. I really need to adjust my hands to turn the corner.

So I found the answer to my own question. The steering is like this in the '01 and I am just not used to it. I usually drive an '04 Ford Focus SVT which has a very light steering. Big change in driving.

shouldn't be so hard...seems u got a probs with power steering/hydraulic...better re-check...
