stiff ride
Hello again
My x5 is with me now a week , it is truly a beautiful machine !! The question I have is that mine is a sport model with 19" alloys , the ride at times is quiet bumby and stiff , is there any way I can smooth this out ? Brgds Seamus |
Um, that is what sport does...didn't you notice that in the test drive? The only quick and easy fix is to change the wheels/tires out from 19's to 18's.

WagnerX5 is right. That's the price you pay for the sport pkg. suspension and wheel set up. At least it handles a bit better.

The sport package is really not for everybody. Try to deflate the tires a bit.

:tsk: don't deflate the tires, running on under inflated tires is not the answer and is dangerous. |
Running on deflated tires will result in bad tire wear, lower gas mileage, and maybe even cause a blow-out or rim damage. If you really hate the ride, sell the 19" and buy a set of 18" wheels.

Speaking of tire air pressure, make sure your cold tire air pressure are 32 psi at all 4 corners. Also, brand new tires can help, but if it is too stiff, then go to 18" wheels will help greatly.

you can always switch to 18 inchers

I didn't mean under-inflate, usually the tires are not at their correct pressure, so lower them to the bare minimum. A friend got a new TL, and complained the ride was very stiff. Turned out Acura over inflated the tires by a lot, causing the harsh ride. Lowering the pressure just a tad will help.

Seamus,
I agree on checking TP with good gauge and getting them down to 32 max for a trial... If they were spot on, there is not much you can do short of the ref'd smaller wheels and tires; an exp. fix, imo. Otoh, they do tend to "soften" a bit, after 5-10K miles. It is the price to pay for the handling that the sport susp. offers. Good Luck and Welcome to the Board! BR,mD |
