WOW. That is a TON of miles. I recently traded in my 03 with 43,000 mi for $23,500.
Good luck.

I know the mileage is pretty high, but if you do the math, it's about 15,000 miles per year. I thought that the average was between 12-15k per year. Am I wrong on that info?

xnsf 02-21-2007 09:23 PM

around 10-15k per year is average, but 76000 is almost near "the end"

Ill sell you my X5, 39k miles, $25k. ;)

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the advice and $ offer (the X5 looks great from the pics, but I bet you're a west coast lad, being a southeastern man, I'm searching local). Do all of you have similar opinions regarding the overall mileage to reliability ratio? I'm certainly not against the CPO or extended warranty mentality, but all this talk of 76k miles "being near the end" makes me nervous. That kind of talk makes me want to reconsider the whole X5 purchasing experience to begin with. How can a brand expect any kind of loyalty if that sort of mileage means customers are going to be "dumping" their old rides for new ones or next best thing. Personally I like the look of the E53s better. While I'm not looking forward to $$$$ repairs to replace a/c compressors, trannies, etc., I definitely would not let that kind of checkbook shock keep me from buying a certain vehicle. My friends with X5s and earlier 3-series sedans speak of 150-250k mile results (yes, it does cost when something happens, but most do not break down everyday). I trust my local mechanic to make fair and honest repairs without hosing my bank account. What does it say if we are so eager to move on once the warranty expires, recycling older craftsmanship for the newest gizmo model year (bluetooth still works with the old setup). Sorry, that's not me. Everybody knows the RX 300/330 and MDX are "more reliable," but I don't want to drive a glorified station-wagon sittin on 18'' rims. That's my .02 for what it's worth. Here ends the soapbox. Thanks again for the earlier comments and I'll keep looking. Peace.
