Unless you supercharge it you're not going to notice the difference in a vehicle that weighs this much. Other than Dinan, ESS makes a good sc kit.
Not really worth dumping that kinda cash into the vehicle since you won't get the money back. So my recco is to sell and either get something like a 4.6/4.8is or a BMW car. |
I've been down this path with this engine in my 540 and it's probably not what you want to hear. Other than a supercharger, you are not going to be able to get substantial increases in power from this engine with bolt on's. I had the cold air intake (Dinan / others) and the exhaust (Supersprint) and tried all sorts of other "stuff" (i.e. pulleys) and it sounded great and even got a thumb's up on the butt dyno, but it was only slightly faster. If you want to really feel the difference trade yours on a nice 2002 4.6is or get a 2004 X5 -- the power upgrade is substantial. The downside of a supercharger is the cost and the resale -- not a large market for a supercharged x5 on resale -- you'll never get your money out of it...

I may be crazy but my fathers 2006 4.8is did not feel all powerfull. I drove it from Pawleys Island SC to Williamsburg VA and tested it every way I could. My 2001 4.4i feels mutch the same. His is newer and nicer to look at but not for 74,000. I think my X (Paid for) handled as well his. His 4.8 rides a little smother. I can feel every bumb in mine. The differences are very small but the price is big. Love my 01!

Well if they built valvetronic to save gas, it did no good. I'm on it twice as hard to make it go, so I know I am using more gas. What a joke.
