Question?

Loud thicking noise form the engine? What might it be?

UCrewX5 02-27-2007 11:24 PM

Could be a variety of things. Ticking valves is the first thing that comes to mind.

mrkbbd 02-27-2007 11:46 PM

probably the oil pump

Have you run lower octane gas recently? That can cause knocking in vehicles designed for 91 octane + like ours.

aren't the Xs protected by anti-knocking technology? or is it model and year specific?

The X just returned after 5 days at the shop.....exhaust side cyl #1 collasped....replased crankcase vent valve, replaced both intake and exhaust cams, cam carrier and hydraulic lifters.

Lucky me all under warranty.

How many miles and what year?

X5 in AK 03-09-2007 02:13 PM

You mean the cylinder in the block collapsed, or part of the cam? Did they say what they thought caused it?
Yowzers! Sounds expensive. Glad you didn't have to pay for it.
