Auxilliary Venting/Heating

I have read the manual, but what does it actually do? Does anyone use it regularly? Is the venting/heating significant?

I had it in my X and never really used it. I used it sometimes if I knew the car would be really hot, or if the car smelled and I didnt want the smell to sink in, like if I had picked up take-out. I never used it regularly because I found it to be a pain to set. If they had a setting where it would vent automatically at a certain time every day it would be more practical, because you could set it to cool down the car like 10 minutes before you come out of work/school, etc.

It does vent automatically, does it not??...it is used to air out the car in hot times. I use it all the time on the weekends...brings the inside temperature down by turning on the cars ventiliation.

I use it just about every weekday during the summer months here in DC. If you use it regularly, the time stays set for the next use (mine is for 5:00 PM). So, it literally takes me about 4 quick selections on my Business CD/MID and I'm out the door in the morning.

I sometimes use the quick 20 minute venting option when I'm out running errands. I hate when the interior is nice and cool and you park to run into a store for 10 or 15 minutes and the car gets hot again. Hit a few buttons and the vents will evacuate the hot air.

I never completely understood that. If you set a particular time, after it turns on, how long does stay on for?

I think it stays on for 20 minutes only. The manual even warns you to not use it too long or too often between driving because it is a drain on the battery.

Guys, as hot as it is in TX, I use it all the time.
I usally set it for my lunch run and again prior to my 7 mile commute home that takes 35 minutes in rush nowhere traffic..........Phil

Sorry, but how does it works?
Does it use the gasoline of the motor or the battery?
Does it turn on only by the programming time or also in summer or winter when you turn the temperature all in minimun or maximum temp it automatically help the air conditioning sistem?

Runs off the battery only - it just operates the vent fans and circulates air around the cabin - no temp control - so no, it doesn't heat the vehicle in the winter, but the circulating air in the hot summer certainly helps cool things down a bit. It's important to keep your dash vents open when you set it - that's where the air comes out...

Is It The Webasto Or Not? I Hear That The Webasto Is Used Also In Winter

I use it a lot too. One thing that is cool here in michigan is the residual heat function, you can hit the max ac button when you get out and warm air from the engine block will be blown into the cabin for the next 30 minutes, it's nice to come back to a care that's still warm (only in the winter) or one that doesn't smell like nasty stagnat air in the summer.

OK, This sounds like a great option. How do you know if you have this option? I purchased a previously owned 2001 X-5 from the original owner over a year ago and I am still learning how to use options and for that matter what options I have. Thanks Comanche

You should have it if you have nav. I dont think it's available without nav.

on the X5 Diesels as well as the Independent ventilation to reduce the temperature inside the car via the auto air conditioning, you also get an Auxiliary fuel burning heater(uses Diesel) to warm the interior on those wintery days, and can be programmed
or turned on directly by the remote control from approx.1300 feet.
Having said this,I hardly use it because my car is always parked inside.

I have an 04 without nav and the programmed ventilation is on the MID. I don't think, at least with the facelifted versions you need to have nav to have this function.

I would like to learn more about this. How can I check if I have it? I have a 04 as well without nav.

I believe the aux. ventilation became standard in '02 or '03 -- I can't remember which. On '01 models, it was available if you ordered the 'high level' on board computer (includes a dot-matrix display in your gauge cluster) and climate control. With Navigation, both of those items are included. Again, that statement is for '01 models only. I think in '02 or '03 the 'high level' on board computer became standard.

On your mid display hit the BC button and look for timmer1 & 2. If you see this just select one of the timers and then hit set. The set screen allows you to pick a start time and I think you hit set at the end. An asterick as well as a small red light will appear and the ventilation should start at the pre-selected time. This will only occur once for 20-30 mins, if you want to turn this function on in the future repeat above.

So, if I'm now wrong, it only need in winter and not in summer for freezing the car. And I see, under the driver door an exaust of the webasto system. So does it work with diesel alimentation or with battery? I still don't know how it works.
