There is a great article in the Articles section on how to do a brake job. If you are somewhat handy and have the proper tools you should be able to get it done. http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/b...e-job-diy.html |

May I ask, "At what mileage did you get the indication for a brake job?" My 2006 is at 25K and my 2001 is at 70K (42K when bought used). Since most of my mileage is interstate hwy, my dash oil change indicator averages 20K (I add an extra change at around 10K) I'm just trying to get a feel for when to purchase parts before I need them. Also, Anyone know how long can you drive SAFELY after getting a brake warning indication? Given that I do 2400 mile trips, need to know if I can make it home (to my new parts) or will I have to take potluck with one of the stealers..., I mean, dealers, out on the highway?

I don't need a brake job, I just want to upgrade to Axxis pads and drilled rotors. Additionally I am the second owner so I am sure somewhere in my X's 60k miles she has had a brake job. Consequently, I am not a good one to answer your question. I am sure someone else will have a response......

Mine is at 52k right now. but I too like 2002silver above, am the 2nd owner. As for how long you can go when you get the warning light, it really depends on your driving style. and if you are on the highway and not doing any city driving or heaving brakeing. you should be able to make it a couple weeks no problem. How ever if you catch it before you get the warning light you may only need pads and not rotors. So keep an eye on them.

Also if you catch it before the light goes on you won't need sensors either.
