driver window won't roll up !?$#

Things just won't stop breaking on my X :) Rolled my driver side window down all the way and heard a strange sound. Now it won't roll back up. Is this for sure the regulator? I have read a lot about these breaking. It seems like it is trying to roll up, could it just be stuck (like fallen off track)?

So now i have two jacked up windows, one that i cannot roll up (driver) and one (passenger) that if i roll down and back up comes up sideways because the little plastic clip broke.

Where can I get these parts for less $$? I am just going to fix both of them myself.

Sounds like window regulators on both sides. My X had three regulators in 6 months replaced by the previous owner.

I feel your pain, I was just into both front doors last week to replace a broken door handle on the driver's side and a broken lock actuator on the passenger side.

Try Crevier BMW for the parts. they have a website and good pricing. Don't know of any other place to get regulators other than a dealer.

well the passenger side rolls up just sideways because one of the clips that holds the window broke off. And I wonder if the driver side one is just stuck.

Is there not a cable-tie repair for the stupid plastic clip?
Found it!

You're not a true X5 owner until you've had at least one window regulator go out on 'ya. Welcome to the club. :D

i had the same problem with my 4.8is a year later when i got it the back window fell i heard a strange sound as well. months later the other back window fell too. i got it fixed with the warranty it ruined my tented windows though.

we350z 05-13-2007 05:27 PM

ok so is ebay a BAD idea? I emailed the seller to see if those are OE or not (which might not be a bad thing if they are not since they consistently seem to fail). My pops told me the LH front (driver) window has had this problem 3 times before and LH front (passenger) window twice. I have also heard they seem to fail at the same time due to age wear and tear, etc...

I think I am going to buy this one even though it is not OEM:

You can get an OEM one from Morristown BMW for about the same price.

Same thing happened to me. I thought that it was the regulator - bought one - then took the door apart and foun that the clip holding the winodw and regulator were broken - wen to the stealer and paid 1.00 a piece. All is well now.

Here is the clip that breaks.

we350z 05-14-2007 03:40 AM

84 bones shipped? I would rather use OEM i guess, they should be emailing me a quote tomorrow.

hmm the passenger side is def something related to clips it appears, but i don't see how the driver side one is. It only comes up a couple centimeters than quits. I guess I should take the door panel off and take a look before i go buying a regulator.

Crevier shipped me OEM rear regulators for about $68.00 plus shipping. OEM Front regulators from Crevier were about $90.00 plus shipping if I recall my previous order correctly.

we350z 05-14-2007 02:37 PM

umm, i searched on their site here and the price is $165.75 for front RH regulator. Where do you see them for $90.00 ?

Skip their website, shoot an email to Junior Cesena ([email protected]). Checking my emails, I ordered Front Left and Front Right regulators from them for my 2002 4.4i in November 2006 for $96.00 each. Perhaps their prices have gone up dramatically, but I don't see why that would be the case.

Good luck!

we350z 05-14-2007 03:31 PM

cool, will do.

He's no longer in the parts department, left a message with them. Thinking I might just get the part off ebay.

we350z 05-29-2007 08:37 PM

Is this part supposed to include the motor or not?

we350z 05-31-2007 01:29 AM

indy mech quoted me like 184 for the regulator and like 1 hour of labor to replace it. Crevier has not responded to my emails or voicemails about the part, I verified the one on ebay does come with the motor assembly. Think I am going to order it tomorrow.

They quoted me an hour of labor for the passenger window which needs a clip.
