I was at my local parts store the other day and I found this stuff called "Gasket Remover" by Permatex. Here is the info from the Permatex site:

Quote:

Quickly removes all types of gasketing adhesives and sealants, even baked-on gaskets. Removes gaskets from any type of assembly in 10 to 12 minutes. Prepares metal parts for new gasket maker and assembly. Reduces scraping and sanding. Prevents damage to flanges. Level 2*

Suggested Applications: Removes silicone, weatherstrip adhesive, dried oil, grease and paint
I'm gonna try it on my lights to see if it works.

If anybody has successfully opened their post 10/02 headlights please share your experience. I am one of the desperate members with post 10/02 headlights waiting for the answer. I tried couple of solutions including baking and glue removal solvents but I did not succeed. I think we need stronger glue solvent. Just like Girardsays, I stop by advanced auto parts store to look for a solution, i also found gasket remover by Permatex but didn't buy it. I am waiting for TOOHOTDOC. Thanks

shouldnt a hot gun do the trick and melt the sealant? Hey toohotdoc, im from van too, how about you give me your mech. or whereever you went to get the lights done, and ill talk to the guy?

NOVAX5 06-16-2007 03:48 AM

tbal69, if heat gun and baking worked we woulnt be here asking and waiting for an answer. of course that didn't work, the sealant was hard. post 10/02 lights require some special procedure to open.
