Laura, no problem with having a female assist. I've been married too long not to realize that..

I neglected to mention one thing in my haste to send the original post.
In addition to swapping steering wheel, I am also adding the heated steering wheel option. From what I can tell, I think all I need is the relay which I have ordered from Open Road and expect to come in today.

So just to be safe, maybe we should plan on a Saturday instead of a Sunday, in case other parts are required. It also sounds like there are other NJ folks that either want to help or learn.

Hmm, maybe I should turn this into a TeamNJ GTG??

Seriously, is it too short a notice to try to plan to do this tomorrow? If not, I am in no rush. We can do this next week, next month.. whatever..anytime before it gets too cold to hold a wrench..

Thanks again,
I look forward to meeting everyone from the NJ team.

I had a question regarding your post. I have a heated non sport steering wheel on my X5. I want to put in the M3 steering wheel but I dont want to loose the heated steering wheel function. I love it on a cold winter day. Therefore, I was wondering if you can still have the M3 steering wheel and not loose the heated function?? What extra parts did you need? Thanks in advance!!!

I'm no expert, BUT I bought the heated sport steering wheel I plan to install from a reliable source on eBay. Here is the link:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-X...5961QQtcZphoto

If you do a search on my ID (edco), you can see a picture of it on another thread..

Also, take a look at the Heated Steering Wheel DIY on the home page here. I believe when you remove your steering wheel, you should find the plug for the heating connector. Then all you'll need to do is plug in the pin connector, and should have what you had before, plus the sport wheel.

NOTE: If you have a 4 spoke wheel (like me) be prepared to also buy the round airbag you'll need.. It's VERY expensive.

Let me know if you need more info

Good Luck

Thanks for the link, please post some pics of your new steering wheel after you install it. I am pretty interested in the mod. I would say after putting rims and tires, this is the next "must do" mod!

It's only 3 hours or so from DC to Metuchen..Straight up 95 to the NJ Turnpike Exit 10.. Why not come up (once I get a date firmed up), and you can get some experience (along with me and the other NJ friends)..

Just a thought..

My wife became ill and that took a priority, so I didnt get a chance to move forward as planned. Ironically, I just spoke to someone who I was referred to by another board member George1202. He's a talented guy from Kearney, and I'm hoping he and I can connect in a week or so.

If you want to join us, let me know and I'll be sure to send you an invite once we lock down a date and time.

PS. What did you do re: Warranty Direct?
