Need a helping hand in NJ - Steering wheel upgrade

Greetings !

I've secured my new air bag and steering wheel to go from a 4 spoke steering wheel (with rectangular bag) to an M3 Wheel with a round airbag.

Had a friend help me when I replaced the one on my wife's E46, and so I know the procedure pretty well, plus I printed the instructions from the DIY page here.

But I could really use a friend to look over my shoulder, hold the steering wheel while I crack the locking nut, and rush me to the hospital when the airbag goes off (OK..JUST KIDDING !!!) Even better if you've done it before !

I'm in Metuchen, NJ which is about 1/2way between Newark airport and Princeton.. Easy to get to from most of NJ, Staten Island, LI, etc. Exit 130 on the Garden State Parkway, Exit 10 off the NJ Turnpike. Exit 3 off 287.

Quid pro quo: I have lots of space in my garage so if you wanted to use my compressor, air tools, ramps, etc, for one of your own projects, I'm sure we can work something out.

I am available to do this pretty much at your convenience since I work from home during the week.

Thank you in advance for your help !

I can help you out with the install if you're willing to drive down to West Chester, PA.

Or if you're not in hurry to install it I can let you know whenever I'm close to your area.

I am north of Newark. BTW, quite a few X5world members in NJ.

I'm

I've never changed a steering wheel but I could hold a steering wheel and I'm great at looking over peoples shoulders. More important, I have cell phone numbers of members that know what they are doing. You poor guy, I'm the closest one. Let's see, will Edco let a girl help :scared: If the airbag goes off, I think we should call the fireman. I'd have to rush you to the hospital in the Jeep. No fun :tsk:

Seriously, I can do something this weekend.

WOW ! Thanks for all the responses..and offers.

Laura, no problem with having a female assist. I've been married too long not to realize that..

I neglected to mention one thing in my haste to send the original post.
In addition to swapping steering wheel, I am also adding the heated steering wheel option. From what I can tell, I think all I need is the relay which I have ordered from Open Road and expect to come in today.

So just to be safe, maybe we should plan on a Saturday instead of a Sunday, in case other parts are required. It also sounds like there are other NJ folks that either want to help or learn.

Hmm, maybe I should turn this into a TeamNJ GTG??

Seriously, is it too short a notice to try to plan to do this tomorrow? If not, I am in no rush. We can do this next week, next month.. whatever..anytime before it gets too cold to hold a wrench..

Thanks again,
I look forward to meeting everyone from the NJ team.

I can do early tomorrow - I need to be back in SI for a 3:30 appt. I leave for vacation Monday so couldn't do again until 8/25. A NJ get together would be cool.

edco, you can make this into DIY session.

Laura needs an excuse to see the fireman. ;)

I do! I'm SOOO mad at myself. I was so upset when my girl got wiped out I never even thought of throwing myself on the floor and asking for mouth to mouth. There were uniforms everywhere.
