Did anybody import an X5 into Canada from US?

If you did, could you please let me know the details....

Not an X5 but I know someone who did another car. He used in US for a bit before taking to Canada, so it was not a new import. They put a sticker on his cluster to read that its miles not KM. Some other minor things.

I'm also interesting to hear the details. Is any price different between Germans and US cars, new/old Canada customs will charge? Are any other fees will apply on a board? Cars is much cheap is states

Thanks

These are the steps for sure: 1. FAX your title 72 hours in advance to US border 2. Go to US border after 72 hours with proof of insurance and recall clearance letter 3. US border will stamp title 4. Go to Canada border 5. Pay $295 fee to RIV 6. Pay $100 A/C fee 7. Pay 6% as GST 8. Customs will provide you with Form1 8. Go to MTO and get a temporary plate sticker 9. Go to RIV and get Form29. 10.Within 45 days, get car certified from Canadian Tire 11. Go to MTO again and pay 8% PST (for Ontario) and get registration.

It is simple process if you follow everything in proper way. But the thing to notice is that i am not sure but they may also charge you Luxury tax that they charge on V8. Make sure about this.

Igosal,
Thanks for sharing this information. One more question, those 6%GST and 8%PST from which amount they charge you? price that you payed in states for you car or from the price that car would cost in Canada?

Thanks!

This is basically it, but there is a duty issue which is %1.9 or %6.1 depending on when the car was manufactured. You pay GST on red book I think so make sure your bill of sale is less unless you want to pay more. O and PST is %7.

Benice, smile and try to deal with one of the ladies if you have a chance.

Good luck.

If you're planning on importing an X5 to Canada, you do not need to pay duty as it is manufactured in N. Carolina. All you need to pay is GST!

I just imported a 2006 X5 3.0 loaded with pretty much all the packages you can get including navigation. In the end, after everything is done, I will be saving at least $10K on the car.

Don't you need to pay PST as well? You don't need to pay Customs Duty as it is manufactured in NC, USA. How about luxury tax being V8 (or you don't know as yours was a V6?).
