aFe is the brand. I have their intake on my 3.0L and I'm very happy with it. I didn't notice any power increase, but I'm happy with the intake sound. Compliments my Remus exhaust with straight pipes very nicely.

So whats the verdict? Anyone think that this is true? (meaning the MPG ) or worth it?

it seems to me there's "cold air intake" from the factory. I see the inlet from the front grill going to the stock air box.

that CAI pictured is get "cold fresh" air from ?

the OEM filter is a good size so any aftermarket intake will not benefit you unless you like the whooshing sound. just make sure the OEM filter is not clogged.

Seems like your Air/Fuel Ratio is running on the lean(more air than fuel) side as the ECU might still be adjusting...

I find it hard to believe. As mentioned earlier in this thread, if BMW could get 2 - 3 more MPG with a better intake filter they would have done it. There was test data on this forum( I looked but couldn't find it) showing no improvement with aftermarket filters.

I'm no expert in the field of automotive engineering, but I am an economist. There are goals, rewards and penalties of fleets (meaning the entire manufacturers' products) combined MPG. This has to be balanced with production costs though so here's the thought to ponder. If BMW could squeeze even ONE more MPG by changing filters and that benefit to the fleet is worth the extra production cost, then the answer would be undoubtably yes. However, if there was not an equivalent cost benefit in all aspects of production (design change, install steps, costs of materials, etc etc etc ) then it simply would not happen.

Unless of course some exec just said "Do it!"

But not likely..

Its a tough balance..Its why GM makes Hummers and Cobalts.

I don't know if it's true but I did gain 1 MPG since my AFE intake was installed on my 3.0i. But it might just be that i'm driving differently. But it was the sound that i was mainly after and it sure does give my 3.0i a better roar, so i'm happy.
