2003 X5 Deal or no Deal

Hello Everyone,
Am new to the Forum.
Looking at purchasing a X5,
Looked at a 2003 X5 With 4.4, Sport package, approx 39K miles
AM/FM Stereo; Multi Compact Disc; Premium Sound; Navigation System; Dual Front Air Bags; Front Side Air Bags; ABS (4-Wheel); Traction Control; Leather; Dual Power Seats; Moon Roof; Roof Rails; Privacy Glass; Alloy Wheels Its black with Black Leather.
For $29.900.00
Do you think its a deal or no deal?
Only thing that i saw wrong with it was the passenger seat bottom the leather has pull up from the cushion about the size of a quarter.
Thank you Everyone
Jim

My .02

FWIW - I say hold out for a 2004 as the improvements are many. Restyled front end, X-Dive, 6-speed transmission (there is a flaw in the 2003 and newer ZF5HP24 transmssion that was only corrected just last summer), 25 more hp, and maybe best of all - 2 to 3 more MPG with the new Valvetronic engine/6HP26 transmission combo.

Lot's of X5's on the market now. I just puchased a 2004 4.4 Sport with 45k miles (most options except nav, but everything else, including comfort seats, 19's, etc.) in perfect condition, CPO from a BMW dealer for $30,990. In addtion to the 5 months of new car warranty left, and I have an additional 24 months of CPO warranty and full maintenace contract included in the price.

I decided the combo of the 2004 improvement and CPO warranty was worth at least $5 to $6k for me. (Which, not coincidentally, is the approx cost of replacing the 2000-2003 5HP24 transmission).

Good luck, I love my X5!

PS - In case you don't already know, you can search all BMW Dealer CPO cars in the US in one place. It seems to be pretty accurate and is updated every few days. A real time saver if you want to go the CPO route. I didn't think I could afford CPO vs. private party, but I found the prices on the 2004's to be pretty close if you shoop and negotiate hard!

MFiver,

Thank you,, I was thinking a little on the same lines as you and not jumping on this one,,its a clean X5
I prefer a 04, but the $s were a little high for me.
Thank you
Jim

The miles are low on that 4.4,

but the price is not. I would say it's pretty high.

Check out mine: 03 Dinan 4.6is on E-bay right now. I will probably sell it for less than your 4.4:popcorn:

Question
Is it worth the wait to find a Clean 4.4 Vs a clean 3.0 now thats loaded?

Just trying to see the advantage if any of the 4.4 over the 3.0?

Thank you
Jim

Can't help you on the price question, as our market is different than the US market. However, with respect to the loaded 3.0 vs 4.4 debate, some of us chose the loaded 3.0 and would have done so for the same price new, as we prefer the inline 6 cylinder. Others who want the V8 low end torque will think we are crazy. Only you can decide. Drive them both and then decide how much you need/want/want to pay for the V8.

I do think the warranty is a big factor, I am selling my 2003 because the warranty was up in March, and I don't want to own one without a warranty. There is no extended warranty from BMW in Canada, so it would a third-party insurance policy and I would rather not go that route.

If the $ are right for you, I would look at a CPO, 2004 if possible due to the X drive improvements, and a 3.0 as it is a great engine. In the real world, the 3.0 has better fuel economy than the V8, no matter what the EPA fairy tale published number says.

Good luck.

Hello JCL,

Thank you,, I have a lead on a Loaded 2004 CPO X5 3.0. just wasn't sure if i wanted the V8 or the 3.0? plus not sure if the 4.4 had more std equipment that came with it?
Thank you for your answer.

I just read you post about your X5 purchase and was wondering what "full maintenance contract" included meant? I'm in the market for either an 04 or 05 (haven't decided on the 3.0 or 4.4). Looking at the BMW website it looks like you knocked about 10000 dollars off their price from what I see there. Thanks. Dane

I agree, I had an 02 3.0i manual and bought a 04 4.4i facelift.

In fuel consumption terms there is no comparison, unless you do freeway and dual carriage way driving the 4.4i uses FAR more fuel. Its a joke how much fuel it goes through. The 3 litre car could almost touch 30mpg on a run, if I get early 20's from the V8 car you'd be lucky.

I too was told, the V8 car would use less fuel than the 3.0i car, and I quickly found out it guzzled like there was no tomorrow.
