i have the dension icelink and it SUCKS

terrible alternator whine coming through the power supply. i've got two filters on the power supply but i can still hear a tiny bit.
the other thing is that when you have hundreds of artists and albums, getting to them is a royal pain in the back side. you have to click one by one.
and finally, the sound is very mediocre. a cd sounds 10x better. i would not buy this thing again.

CD is better techincally speaking, since ipod uses compressed format. That it is not something like you can notice easily especially if the songs are bought from itunes and not something like was copied and downloaded somewhere with poor quality. I heard the whining sound on my E46 but not on my X. Tom said the sensitivity of each BMW varies so instead of having filter on your alternator, why not buy a filter for your DICE and the BMW CD changer harness? Its $14, or tap a ground on the dice harness. I'm sorry to hear that your issues seem isolated since it does not happen to all X5 owners.

I've got no problem what so ever, sound is as good as whats on my iPhone, (the highter the bitrate of the song the better the quality) no different from the CD changer, I have no problem navigating the iPhone cause its easier than a ipod with the full touch screen plus I have Head Unit and Steering wheel control. The iphone is really secure, I mean you have use force to pop it out when you want to so even if your on a race track I don't think it would pop out before you pop out of your seat.

The Dice and the spek dock is a solid product specially the Spek dock, it's not a peice of plastic its actually a solid block I believe made of resin..you could actually pop some serious heads if you hit someone with it...

thanks to all response, i will definite be choosing dice for my ipod install very soon. can't wait to recover some door pocket space eaten up by cd's...

Think you should consider the Intravee as well if all you want is music from your iPod and be able to control it using the head unit and/or the buttons on the steering wheel.
I would not want an iPod mounted next to the nav screen!
Don't need video on the nav screen either.
Installation on my X5 took less then 5 minutes.
