Full Tank of Gas
I've been noticing especially with the high prices in gas is that I can hit 240 miles easy with the first half of a full tank. Now, with that in mind, I thought the second half tank would also hit the same amount of miles but it doesn't.
Don't get me wrong, I usually hit around 390 to 410 miles in full tank but with a simple math I was assuming I would get 240 x 2 = 480 miles per full tank but I don't. I'm no mechanical engineer so any input on this would definitely be an eye opener for me... Thank you in advance to all you brilliant members out there! |
Lots of BMWs are like that. The gauge is very non-linear. A Z3 will go 150 miles on the first half tank, and then get maybe only 60-70 on the 2 nd "half". Its just one of those "things".
Ever notice when you fill up completely you can go a day or two before the needle even starts moving, but on the last qtr tank...bam 10 miles later the empty light is on? :D |
Well keep in mind when you fill up you tend to overfill the tank, and once you hit the half way point, and hit 240 miles, that is actaully from more than half a tank of gas. Just a thought!

the gauge doesn't take into account the gas in the reserve or the gas in the fuel filler line

240 on a 1/2 tank is pretty damn good....

I agree with gresch. I'm lucky to get 300 miles total. Although my driving style probably accounts for that.

Mountain driving probably accounts for only getting 300 miles

Except I live in denver and my commute is less than 5 miles round trip on a flat surface.. :nanana:
