Find a good welder guy .......... looks like the attachment point tore off. For sure you'll be needing a new attachment bracket piece.

Mybe he/she was lucky but it would be a tough sell to convince the SA that this was due to "...defects in materials or workmanship"

I think the problem was a cracked control arm or an out of round hub bearing that lead to loss of control of car, going offroad..... BMW replaced all of the damage under warranty!

warranty doesnt cover wear / tear / and accidents

Tech background

Would anyone have a stab at what I have ripped the bolt through. A friend jacked up the X5 and suggested it was the sub-frame. However, I have no tech notes on the X5, so I can't be sure.

Regards,

RR

That wouldn't be replaced under warranty ;) A driver going off road and ripping the sub-frame apart, regardless of rationale, is not a warrantied experience.

Take it to a shop, get an estimate on cost and parts then check REALOEM for the parts.

Hmm, looking at the pics it is very hard to tell but possibly part of the floor panel. It doesn't look like part of the frame structure. Whatever you hit, you hit very hard. The last time I've seen damage like that was when I was stripping totaled cars.

Off Topic: I stripped a car down to the frame that was in such a bad accident that seat belt mounts, to the frame, had ripped right off through 3 1" bolts...dang.

roadrunner 02-14-2008 08:54 AM

Yup,

Is the sub frame replaceable?

Take it to a shop and have them estimate cost and parts.

Everything is replaceable, aside from the frame.

My guess is it is a floor panel.
