4.8is and the Drag Strip

This last Sunday I went to the local drag strip to support a friend who was making a few passes down the 1/4 mile drag strip in efforts to further dial in his hot-rod for the season. When I showed up there were less than 25 cars running that day so I paid the extra $5, had my X5 teched-in and got in the staging lanes. Of course I was there to support my friend so I only made one pass but it was still fun.

I'm not sure what the specs are so I don't know if I did good or not but... my 2004 4.8IS turned out a 14.82 @ 93.37MPH in the 1/4, 9.57 @ 73.85MPH in the 1/8, and the 60ft was a 2.15.

My X5 is stock and I made the pass with the DSC off and in the Sport Manual Mode.

Now I know that most probably haven't ran their X5 at the 1/4 drag strip but if you are nuts like me and have, I'd be curious to compare times. Especially those with performance mods. Yeah I'll admit, that single pass has me thinking about perormance mods.

YOu are slower than motor trend times. They took the quarter in 14.5

What is your 0-60? Stock is 7 seconds and quarter-mile pass is about 15.3 seconds (dunno what speed) but yours made it at 14.82? I think it performed the wayt it suppose to.

by the way did you launch yours or was it just light green and then floor it? Also did you take out anything like the spare tire or run the car with low gas?

You will loose, by quite a bit.

My time slip doesn't show a 0-60 time.

I didn't do any kind of launching as in holding the brakes and throttle at the same time. It was just a floor it to go type of situation.

I didn't remove anything from the vehicle for this run except the girl. In fact I would have let her ride with me if it was allowed. I didn't want to leave her out in the cold. I believe I had about a half tank of gas. I wonder how much weight is saved and if it would make a difference running with less fuel?!

I know the GC SRT8 would beat me in a straight line but I'm not sure about the Trailblazer SS. I'm willing to bet the X5 can out handle them though.

Wow! I found an article from MotorTrend that claims a 14.3 @ 95.8MPH http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...iew_specs.html! Car and Driver has the 4.8is at 14.5 @ 96MPH http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...st+page-2.html. Any chance they overrate or am I just that slow? Maybe just a tune up and new air filter will make me faster?! Or maybe I need to reset something?

Are you thinking of the 4.4i with a 1/4 mile time of 15.3??
