Bullbar
2 Attachment(s)
As I have mentioned, new to the team here....my X came with a Bull bar....I like it, but I am not sure. about it....I like things nice and clean....anyone have thoughts? How is it even removed?
|
personally I'd remove it, but I'm not sure how you go about that. the front end has a nice clean look without it...IMO...
|
I think it looks pretty good but not great. I would probably leave it because it looks like there might be holes in the bumper where the ends of the "decorative grille guard" mounts. It's probably easier to live with it than to try to remove it.
Here's some fuel for your fire: Get an exhaust! The painted bumpers looks great but the rear is begging for a new exhaust/exhaust tips. Do it! All the cool kids are doing it. ;) |

I know...I know....REMUS is the winner.
It is on my list....the next thing is the angel eyes....expensive mod tho....
I guess I would have to buy a new front difuser to lose the bar huh? |

I think a good body shop can probably patch up the holes but you'll need to repaint the bumper cover. That's just added expense that will take away from your mod fund. I guess it comes down to whether or not you can live with the grille guard. :dunno: |
I would get rid of the chrome outline around the rear lights as my first mod - no offense of course.

Chrome trim, No bull...
No offence taken, I was waiting for the trim comment. I have had the truck three weeks. I have had at least 20 compliments on the chrome trim.
More than likely it is because of the Hartage 20's...if they were not on the SAV the trim would look out of place. So until the chrome comes off it stays. I am going to buy a staggard set of chrome 20's prob after the exhaust and running boards. I have a funny feeling though that if that trim is not true chrome the first taste of salt up here is going to eat them alive and it will be a moot point. |
Personally, I would keep the front bar, but maybe that's because I'm a farmer.
It is neat looking and well integrated IMHO :) |

I'm a sucker for chrome and have been thinking about adding this one, and possibly, these steps.
what do you think? I know they look a bit "aftermarket" but the chrome bar will help in city parking situations...(Had one on my ML and never regretted it!) |
how much does the bullbar go for nowadays ? i am itching on adding that as a mod less for looks than for parking NYC and its drivers sucks

The chrome bullbar is 351 but group buy could put it at 306 for 5-9, just$ 275 for 10 or more.
The max step sets are $392....$341 for 5-9, $306 for 10 or more... plus shipping, but they have surprisingly good shipping rates via fedex. |

I love my bar, I think it makes the truck look much better. |
I love the all white X5 and the bull bar. You have got to get rid of the chrome trim regardless of what you do with the wheels. That is really great looking car ruined by the chrome bling bling. The wheels look fine on there...just get rid of the trim.
The :mantis:looks very :ghetto:. |

Any running boards other than these are not exceptable on an X5. If you are caught using anything else, you may be banned from the board. :D

Looks fine to me. ( It's a bit different) but different is good. I love the wheels. Who makes those and what size are they?
|
The 20's are made by HARTGE running with 295/40r20's..that set is about $6000.00
Hey Pepatrick...ya know....I could take your GHETTO comment as an insult to my core.
What did your momma say? If you have nothing nice to say....say nothing at all. Just because you feel comfortable with your interpretation of your X5 does not give you the right to insult others who see their canvas differently. If all of our trucks were the same then we would all be nothing more than one of many fish swimming in a school...as you looked across the group one would see nothing but a sea of the same. So my SAV has a little more BLING to it than yours. Big DEAL! In the parking garage downtown today on the way in the office as I was walking to and from the truck I was stopped by three different people all professionals asking me year/miles/where can they find one like that. What does that say to you? Ghetto/Taste/Style…all or some of the above? We all like different things. If we put 65K people in Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, did a straw poll, it would prob be fifty/fifty. You. You played it safe with a blk/gray with light charcoal tint with silver rims. There are probably dozens like your set up across the globe. In other words AVERAGE..... Me.... since I am different. I want my transportation to be different. And how am I different? Pepatrick?... Since I am multi-culteral....e.g...That would mean my father is mulatto or should we say in layman's terms multiracial in that my father is African American/Native American/French Canadian. I guess it is just in blood to like that bling. So I guess until 'I" get sick of the chrome it will stay there pissing off people like you when they see it at a stop light. Hey I can be in either that or on the FATBOY with 22k worth of bling bling and loud azz banging pipes. Cuz that just has to put a bee in your bonet too. Funny thing tho...the guy that set up the truck was a Anglo as George Bush himself and that truck game straight out of one of Dallas's most influential suburbs. Do me an others a favor on the board…stop being IGNORANT. :clueless: :clueless: :clueless: |
One...I did not mean to pi$$ anybody off. Two...the tone of my statement with the :D was meant to be a friendly statement and the fact that it made you feel otherwise tells me you have a chip on your shoulder. I believe that everyone on here has the right to do what they want to with their car. I already made the statement that I liked your X5. I along with others on here have made similar comments that we did not like the chrome...it is an opinion board and everyone has a different one. Opinions on here are not meant to offend. They are meant to be opinions and take it for that.
Most people on here talk about bling on their cars. It may be wheels or something else we have added. My car for one has a lot of blingage on it with all the mods I have made. Then on top of that...what the hell does George Bush have to do with any of this? If I offended you, I apologize. If you are uncomfortable with who you are then I can see how you might be offended. I have had people make suggestions about my car on here and I do not take offense to it. I take it in stride and do to my car as I wish. |
Apology Accepted
Ghetto is a slang term that is derogatory up here anyway, and can be interpreted as an insult. I don't have a chip just found it somewhat offensive and insensitive. I am sure most people who actually live in the ghetto would rather not be there and love to be suburbanites but since may not have the means or might still be working towards that goal that is where they find themselves.
Now why some people put more into their cars than their houses?....that is a whole other conversation. Bygones be bygones.... Don't think I did not catch the whole "comfortable with who you are part"...just letting that go cuz I love the site and do think we all add to the texture of the group and do not feel like going back and forth :D :D :D |
Roc3b....Just keep up the good questions and the good comments on this board. Your taste in cars is obviously good and I respect your contributions to this board. Again...I apologize if my statements were insensative as they were not intended to be. :tgif:
|
Agreed...tell you what...I will name my first born Pepa
:beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug:
|
I just love a happy ending (er...you know what I mean)
|
I like happy endings that don't cost extra
Tito!..Get me some tissue!
|
How much is the bullbar anyway (color matched of course)... and does anyone have pics of it with the 4.6 kit???

here is a stupid question how the hell does it mount? do you need to drill in the bumper?
|
You see....We CAN all get along. :bustingup

Bull bar
From my inspection of it it there are four small mounting holes into the front facade.
The Bullbar does not come in color, you have to have it painted. The price for the paint, bar, and install is around $750-$800. YOu could save on the install by using the bumper dismount instructions located here. The points of contact with the bar and the facade are foam contacted, meaning there is a piece of foam between the points of contact. I am seriousely considering removing it only because I live in New England...the sand and salt are going to beat the snoot out of it with road rash. I am thinking of running a OEM painted nose in the winters and saving the nice nose for the summers. So if you live in the northeast and you hate road rash you may want to rethink this application unless to things; 1. 3m does not make a celebra for the bulbar. If you know a 3m cert dealer they get the ROLLS of the clear aplique and custom cut pieces to wrap the bullbar and protect it from road rash. Or 2. Get it in flat black where rashing is not an issue. Another thing to think about two is if youre going to unicolor your X by painting everything your main body color, a very trick look btw! Get the shop to go very heavy on clear coat and use I high mix content so the paint sticks. That will protect you. The guy I got my X5 did not pay attention to this and the paint chips in certain places very easy like when I break out the power washer. Next spring I am going to have all of the lowers removed and resprayed as my cousin has a body shop. I am going to have him spray on clear at least five to six layers.  :zoom: :zoom: :zoom: |
Hey Roc3b,
I just puchased an BMW OEm chrome bull bar for my '01 X5 4.4i from PacificBMW.com. It never came with installation instructions. This is for the standard front bumper. It did came with templates for drilling the four holes. I would feel more comfortable getting more info before I start to drill into my X5. Your thread is the closest I got to finding instructions for the install. What do you mean by "YOu could save on the install by using the bumper dismount instructions located here" ?. Are there instructions out there that I can't find. Please help. Pacific BMW was no help at all. They wanted me to bring the car to them for the install. Thanks, Ken |
I have no idea....it was on when I brought it.....you will have to remove the bumper and it is only four contact points...if I were you I would remove the front and take a look behind it.

I heard you Ken. I am in the same boat. I bought it last week and still struggle with the installation. I got the instruction from Crevier and was able to appplied the template with 20mm and 8 mm holes in but unable to figure out how to apply the other two. From the instruction, I have to apply these two inside the bumper and cut along the periforate marks. I did not dare to drill the holes yet. From the position of the template, I did not see any holes in the front chasis to bolt the screws in. I will take time this weekend to post the pictures in this forum and hope get more professional ideas from someone. If you have any ideas, please share with me and I will do the same. Thanks Anthony |
[QUOTE=Roc3b]Hey Pepatrick...ya know....I could take your GHETTO comment as an insult to my core.
Hi Roc3b, I think most of us saw that Pepatrick was joking :D .No problem! I personally also dont like the chrome bits but I respect peoples choices! I have seen those chrome accessories sell like hot cakes for a vast majority of Suvs and Jeeps,so there are a lot of people ou there that like them. Your bullbar looks ok and it is different! If you decide to remove it you will be left with holes in your bumper and you will have to cover them and respray the bumper. BTW,great looking wheels. |
