I agree if you want to play in the snow then get real snow tires!
All seasons won't cut it. They will get you by but you will have much better traction, stopping and turning with dedicated snows.
If you are spending 40-70K on a car and your family is in it then $1500 for a set of wheels with snows is well worth it.
OK I will get off my soap box again ;)

Dedicated snow tires is the way to go. Last winter I played with X5 in the the mall parking lot late night and the Dunlop Wintersport on 18" wheels held like teeth on the ground.

You can snowboard down that roof! :bustingup . Well, the apartment we rented was at the foot of the snowy mountain, which only get snowed in during the coldest month of the year (i.e. July-ish)
