Ticking sound from behaind climate control
Hello all, 02 X5
I hear a whiring /ticking sound coming from behind the climate control panel no matter if the key is off or on or even in the ignition. It is not the climate control fans because I can hear this sound even when they run. If it is a small fan or motor it does not change speed. This is my daughter's car, and today I had disconnected the battery in order to change a broken door latch mechanism. I do not know if this noise was there before or not. I have searched the forum but found no solution. I have disconnected and reconnected the battery and removed some alarm system fuses, and fiddled with different key positions. Nothing. I assume that left standing long enough this will kill the battery. TIA--- |
I left the driver's window open a crack and just went out and listened for the sound. It seems to have shut itself off.
I read on some thread that the computer systems slowly go to sleep and the last thing to shut off is the shift indicator light. I looked and my light is still on but the sound has stopped. |
Sound behind climate control
Am I the only one who can hear this?
I'm not sure that it goes away. Everytime that I unlock and get in it is there. Very low, but definitely a constant sound behind the dash when it is shut off and continues when the key is removed. |

I believe it is a small fan that draws air across an air sensor for the climate control. Mine has been making this ticking sound for years. It actually stops when the car goes into sleep mode and starts again as soon as a door is opened. My advice? Ignore it. Regards Colin. |
You mean AC/heater blower fan in the cabin? If so, check the final stage resistor. If it's just the fan in the AC control panel, then it's normal to run for 16 minutes after you stop the engine. Get a can of compressed air for cleaning computers and blow it in the vents on the temp control panel.

Isn't that sound the motor spinning the gyro for DSC? I can hear it to... that's what i always thought it was

Thanks guys.

I have the same annoying ticking noise behind my climate control, it sounds like a small fan right below the temperature readings. I might try to replace the final stage resistor and see if it goes away.

me too no idea what it really is and what of it does not turn off?
I have the same issue too, worried if it does not trun off i will run the battery flat
|
Anyone know if i order a new climate control that for sure this ticking noise will go away? I gues it has something to do with the fan running so much it has worn out the magnets that make it work.
