My Next Mod - 4.6 Tips

So, I just bought these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...2BSI%26otn%3D2

How do they install? I checked this thread. Some are saying you have to weld them, some are saying to cut off the existing tips and weld, Phong says they slip right over the existing without the need for welding or screws. :dunno:

Has anyone else installed these same tips?

i looked at the same auction and decided against this mod after seeing how the other non IS x5's looked after this mod.

From what i read, you have to cut your current tips off to slip these on, then secure them on your pipes with a few welds behind the bumper. If you look at the parts diagram on the ebay item sale, it shows that the IS exhaust actually has a rectangular bracket which snuggly fits these tips. Without having that your welder will have to be a bit crafty in positioning and directing the tips with the bumpers off.

Let us know how your install goes. More testimonials just go into the pool of knowledge and experience here.

Good luck.

^^ this is exactly what i did. Cut off the existing pipes and replace them with smaller in diameter pipes and welded. I bought it from the same vendor and love it michelle! Here are the pics of mine

Actually, I'm asking this for Tijan, too, since he bought the tips first and then linked me to the ad.

Honestly Michelle, I really like the std. black tips; they're very Ferrari-esque. I Some of you overhype the 4.6/4.8 style and don't give the 4.4 look enough credit!

:trustme:

Exactly, i have a 3.0i which the tips are discusting, but i bought a 4.4i exhaust and black chrome tips, i think they look really nice so i went with those over the 4.6is/4.8is tips.

I've gone back and forth with it. I really wanted them a few years ago, but decided to keep the standard black tips. After upgrading to 20" 87's last March, and recently checking out a few pictures, I decided I want something that will bring everyone's eyes down to also notice how awesomely wide my tires are. I think they complement the wide tires from the rear view. :driver:
