C'mon guys. I'm a newbie here too and I realize most of us are well informed at things mechanical, even if we don't do our own repairs. But we all had to start somewhere....high school tech class, our Dad, Uncle, a shade tree mechanic...someone at some point explained this stuff to us.

A water pump is a mechanical pump that circulates the coolant through your engine block to keep it cool. As with any other mechanical device, it can (and will) eventually fail. There is a weep hole at the bottom, it will start dripping someday, and you'll change out your water pump. Or you can be proactive and change it before it leaks.

Brake fluid and Power Steering Fluid are both types of hydraulic fluid. They don't compress very much under high pressure. The brake fluid is forced under pressure to close the calipers/drums of your brake system, stopping your car. The power steering fluid is forced under pressure through the power steering pump and control valves to the steering rack, which makes your steering effort easier than a non-power steering car.

But yeah, Google is a great thing. Pretty much any question you have, type it into the google search engine and you'll most likely find it.

Ok, ok...I get it. Just trying to be helpful if the guy was sincere.

I just know that I was once a curious 17 year old kid trying to learn about paint and body work, and had several old geezers at the local body shops and paint supply store that answered a lot of my dumb questions, as well as giving me invaluable pointers. Could I have learned from a book? Yeah, probably. But having someone take the time and show me really helped me out. I still do all my own minor paintwork to this day - not that I'm a pro or anything, but I do decent work and I'm too damn cheap to pay someone else to do it for me.

What/who is a newbie?
Google/Wiki has replaced your high school tech teacher, your dad, Uncle, shade tree mechanic and your SO who knows it all.

We have YouTube etc. for that.
