I have latitudes on my 4.8is and I like them alot...seem to have last a bit longer than the diamaris, but with a small sacrifice in performance...

Are the latitudes quieter than the diamaris?
What kind of sacrifices in performance are you observing?

As with most folks on here, i am torn between the Advans, Proxes and Latitudes. My primary concern is noise and comfort - my wife thinks the X is too loud and harsh (coming from a Lexus and Acura) - and i want to drive the X everywhere.
(I will not go back to Diamaris - my short experience with them convinced me that they 'suck'!)

If you are trying to get the most "Lexus soft" ride in an X, I would go with the Latitudes in your situation. Why did you think the Advans sucked?

EDIT: I meant Diamaris, not Advans.

Toyo's are VERY VERY noisy! AVOID THEM IF POSSIBLE!!!

I've had to get the fronts replaced twice so far - once at 16K when i bought the X5 and once more at 20K. Both for noise and rough ride complaints. Although i didn't have to pay full price the second time - since it was easier to convince Discount Tire to return them. It's a smooth tire - does especially well at higher speeds and when they are warmed up. They do get quieter by about 4-5 db when they get warmed up. But for day to day driving, they are a bit loud. (tires or oil don't get sufficiently warmed up for my commutes)

The worst part was when we had a light rain here in Phoenix, and we lost traction - i didn't think i gunned it or anything, but i definitely didn't expect to change the orientation of the car ... felt a little panic - esp with my 2yr old in the back. In all honesty, i am a little distracted when my son is in the car - but never lost traction before.

Have you had the Toyo S/T's on any of your cars? I have had them on my 4.4 X5 for over 12k and so far they have been great! No noise or ride complaints at all. I am more interested in performance than a Lexus type ride, so I may be biased. I have had noisy Yokes AVSES100's on my 325i and no tire I have ever owned has been as loud as that. In all honesty, the Toyo's don't seem any louder to me than the all-season Bridgestones that were on it when I purchased the vehicle and those tires had a much more conventional tread pattern.

I just purchased bridstone dueler hp sport for my oem 20's. They are awesome, not as stiff as the advan but traction is great on wet or dry pavement. 900 for the set

The Diamari's are on national backorder and I can't seem to get a pair.

Does anyone recommend anything better than the Diamaris? If so maybe I will just change out the entire set at one time.

Thanks.

My diamaris' had 31k miles on them and still had a little bit of tread left, which is very good for any z-rated tire but they were unbearably noisy. The Toyo's were tempting but I avoided them for two reasons:

1. All-season tires are competent in different climates, but are not GREAT at any one thing.
2. Read enough mixed reviews about their road noise on this forum to make the risk vs. savings not worth it.

For the extra few hundred bucks, I got the Advans. They have a higher treadwear than the diamaris' but that gets thrown out the window since no two manufacturers ratings are the same. I figured at the very least if I get 30k mi out of them like the diamaris' then ill be happy.

One thing to consider is living in AZ the pavement gets much hotter than in other places and *may* heat cycle the tires more, causing them to get noisier sooner. I think this had something to do with my diamaris' being so noisy since my X spent it's first 30k mi in Henderson. They were also severly dryrotted after less than four years(original tires).

I just finished putting a set of Latitudes on the 4.8is. I based my information on the fact that the Diamari's wore out extremely quickly - within 20kmi.

After researching specs off of the Tirerack, I chose the Latitudes and I'm glad I did so far. The ride is nice, quiet, and still very responsive which corresponds with what the Tirerack indicated. Further, I should get additional life out of them according to the comparison. I think it's a bonus that they are All Season and still have comparable if not better performance in some categories. While I will not be using them for the winter (I have 20" 4.6is reps with Pirelli Snow/Ice), I do have piece of mind that they'll be okay if I accidentally get caught in a light snow.
