I never did respond with my results to this issue after taking it to the service departmeng. They decided to just replace the transmission and I have to say that the new transmission will also do this every once in awhile but it is not nearly as bad or as frequent and it was with the first transmission.

Some interesting reading:

This issue still remains...the reset seems to be a temporary fix. After showing SIB 240106 provided by BostonX54.4, the dealer seemed completely unaware. They claim that a diagnosis revealed that the transmission oil needed to be topped off and this would remedy the matter. Needles to say...the saga continues :dunno:

Unreal. Either they are a bunch of fools or just playing stupid with you. I once had a SA tell me "there are no navigation system updates" .... uh okay. After that correction on my part he suddenly became incredibly knowledgeable about technical BMW issues.

just to give u guys a heads up... chances are that this "bump" happens when u come off the highway or keep a consistant speed over 55... and then when u come to a full stop and then start rolling and stop again (i.e. the city in traffic) it gives u that bump... to my knowledge its motor mounts... this is the 2nd time that this happened to me.. changed motor mounts at 85k and now have to change again at 170k... try purchasing some motor mounts... if ur in the tristate area i can put them in for a reasonable fee...

That is interesting, but the bump is definitely not from motor mounts. See the links I posted above that discuss the known problem with the ZF gearbox. Some people have reported it to be more likely to occur when the transmission is in sport mode during the 2-1 shift and you come to a stop.

My bump is during 2-3 shift :s
on flat or slight downhills, When i accelerate on the second gear to about 25-30MPH and suddenly take my foot off the gaz, it rolls on 2 for few seconds then engages the third with a bump.... anyone experienced this?

I tried the 30second reset, does it work on 3.0? i feel it is less now, or is it a placebo?

can i just live with it if i am used to it, or there is something that should be done?

I've wasted about a week running about trying to fix the downshift bump, and that bump when you take your foot off the gas.

The mechanic took the easy way out and said it happens in every X, and I should just accept it.

According to a few mechanics, the bump when you take your foot off the gas that's the back axel, and the rough downshift is the tranny software or "brain" as they cleverly called it.

One of them made it happen less often by playing around with the idle speed for the engine, it happens less often now but it still happens. The car feels differently too.

I can safely say I'm slowly hating my car. I should've gone with a Cayenne. :(
