i have done it on my E46 by tapping to the interior light setup. Easiest way to do it IMO.

I just put in a 194 LED bulbs in mine!! The mirror caps (the painted part) were a B!TCH to get off!!

I had no issues removing them, however puting them back properly was a B!TCH:)
