Extended Maintenance Plan? Worth it...Please Help
I need the expert opinion of the forum...
Buying a CPO 2005 X5 4.8is with 42,800. In service date Feb 2005. So I have 7,200 miles or 8 months left on the Free maintenance. I drive about 1,250 miles per month. Dealer wants $1,895 for the 6 year or 100,000 miles extended maintenance. Dealer charges the following for service: oil service $180 Insp I $425 Insp II $600 Brake job $1,800 !! So it this extended maintenance worth it? What would you do? I only plan to keep the vehicle for 3 years (so about 87,800 miles on the odo when I sell it.) |
in your case you will sell the car next three years is not worth it.
|
But if a brake job is needed in those 3 years, that's $1,800 right there.
|
EXtended warrenty don't cover brake jobs .
|
This is extended maintenance not the warranty.

If you are mechanically inclined at all, you can change your own brakes for about $400 (complete front and rear pads and rotors).
WIth your mileage estimates you would need about 3 oil changes (with BMW's recommended intervals) for a total of $540, but you can also do that yourself and save a lot of money. Or you can take it to an indy shop and goet it done for under $100 You will also probably only need one inspection (if that) So if you can do some of these items yourself, I would say don't get it. Especially if you are sure you are going to sell at that mileage. I would only buy a warranty if I were going to use up all of the mileage as cars typically tend to break more with mileage and not age. |
well! you can do the brake your sefl for wayyy less. ( about $600)

I did mine with Centric rotors and Axxis pads for about $420 total. Also, $180 for an oil change is crazy high. Take it to an Indy shop if you don't want to do it yourself. |
This warranty does cover brakes.
