Hey Term..., I ordered the software a few days ago, I've read a few threads around here of the codes you've activated/deactivated and I'm looking to do most of those too, if I have any questions when running that software would it be cool if I PM you?

Sorry skorpiond, don't mean to hijack your thread

of course you can PM me - if I know the answer, I will help... :D

It started out as a surcharge if you imported a car from the US that didn't have daytime running lights to discourage you from buying outside Canada (better deals price wise in the US) . They knew you wouldn't pass DMV inspection if they weren't reprogrammed and it had to be done by dealer.... Mercedes,Volvo , BMW were hand in hand on this scam. I remember when I first started importing cars from the US , they use to charge me 50$ for a BMW.....

It should be possible... do you do programming yourself? look for the DLR entries in the file from the LCM...

if somebody programs it for you - it is only 30 minute job, from starting the computer, connecting, downloading file from the LCM, adjusting the file, and then uploading the file back...

Hello TeminatorX5, can you suggest me on LCM. I believe it is software. Which version/brand, how I can use etc.

Hello Kisu.

LCM is a piece of hardware, Light Control Module, it controls most of the lights in the car, interior and exterior... it also controls some of the messages coming to you from various sensors... It runs off a specific set of commands, programmed into the LCM as a firmware (it is not really a firmware, just set of ASCII text telling the module what to do). The programming of that text file is done by various programs, I use the one called NCSExpert... the program is ran on a laptop, the laptop is connected to the car via an OBDII-to-USB cable...

If you are planning to do it yourself, you must read a lot of information, as if you do something wrong, you may "brick" some important car modules, and then you will be out a lot of money to revive the car... to do it yourself, i would suggest buying a hardware package on ebay from the seller in Romania - he sells the cable and he also includes the software package that can also trouble shoot the engine and many other aspects of the car... search ebay for INPA, EDIABAS, you will a seller from romania - many people here have bought from him...

if you are not a do it yourself guy, you will need to find somebody local to you who already has the software/hardware bundle and can do it for you, maybe for small keg of heineken... lol...

For $500 you could buy BMW Scanner 1.4.0 from ebay, easily program DRLs and a LOT of other things yourself, and still have $475 left to spend on lots of candy, gallons and gallons of ice cream, or a donation towards cancer research...
$500 to program DRLs... That's just robbery...

Hey Kisu_san like Term said, I bought the cable from the guy in Romania too. I've successfully used it on my girlfriend's e90 to diagnose car problems but I have yet to use it on my X.
It was pretty easy to use. It comes with instructions but I would recommend reading other posts, watching some youtube videos, and making sure you have a good idea of what you need to do before you use it. I like it and would recommend it. The only thing I had to do extra was find the file in English for the NCSExpert from a source on another forum and load it to the folder as mine was in German. Hope that helps.
