Fuel consumption X5 Diesels
 

There seems to be a large discreptancy in the Mpg(ltrs/100 km) figures that us Diesel owners are getting!For the record could you all please confirm your fuel consumption and the conditions.Please state if your X5 is a pre-2004 or the latest and if it is oem or "tuned".Those of you with DINAN tuned X5s will not be taken seriously(sorry...had to put that one in!couldnt help it!)

I have a 3.0d (in the UK) 2003 model. The computer tells me I`m getting about 19mpg - general driving around town etc.

I use l/100km like parameter in Italy. My computer write medium 10,2

Hi guys,thanks for the input so far.As I suspected,there is a large discreptancy in the figures!!!So far we have a 2003 X5 doing 14.84 ltrs/100 km(19Mpg) around town and on the other have we have a 2005 x5 doing 9.7 ltrs/100 (29Mpg).Great info Keep it up.
So that our members in the States can follow these figures more easily in Mpg can you guys please DIVIDE 282 BY LTRS/100 to show also MPG.(E.g.282/9.7ltrs/100=29 Mpg) ....Thanks

Mines a May 2005 30l diesel. Only has 5500k's on the clock, and the fuel economy seems to be getting better each tank. Computer says 11.3l/100 and I am getting approx 800km out of the 93 litre tank.

City driving very little if any hwy, so all stop and start stuff.

That won't help the members in the States. If you want to help the US posters, then divide 235 by your litres/100 km figure. Recall that the US does not use the imperial gallon. You can help some (non-metric) Canadians by using 282 :)

I suspect it is partly the confusion between US and Imperial gallons that is helping drive the hue and cry for the X5 diesel in the US. There simply isn't as big a difference between the diesel and gasoline as a lot of posters think, because you Europeans are using larger gallons for your 29-32 mpg posts. Having said that, I like the 3.0 diesel, and would buy one in Europe. I won't buy one in North America even if it does come here, due to the high-sulphur fuel. Try and buy a diesel Volkswagen here and the dealer will work hard to talk you out of it, as they can't afford the warranty costs.

I get 10.1 litres/100 km on the highway, 14 litres/100 km around town (28 mpg/19 mpg, both Imperial), for a 3.0, not a diesel. Pushing harder in the mountains drops the 10.1 figure to 11. Certainly not as good as the diesel, but there is not the order of magnitude difference that many seem to feel there is.

You are right!As I reside in the U.K and in Portugal I got so used to calculating imperial gallon into ltrs/100.I completely forgot the Us gallon! Thanks for correcting me. :thumbup: Taking this into consideration this supports my theory even more ,in the thread "X5 DIESEL IN USA" ,that there isnt a big difference in fuel consumption between 3.0 Petrol & Diesel x5s to make it feasible for the BMW Usa to get the Diesel(as well as the high sulpur fuel).The Diesel with its VG turbo putting out BIG V8 torque is a surprising driving experience,your 3.0i needs more revs but it is as smooth as silk(smoother than the V8s!) .

Cannot believe that there are no more any more DIESEL owners outhere??Come on guys please share your fuel consumption with us!
