BMW Out of breath?

When I shut my truck off my BMW makes a pffffft noise like it was outta breath. We couldn't identify what it was but my father was saying that sometimes that means future problems with the engine/motor. As the sound seems like air, anyone else experience this?

It's a normal sound actually. Not every car is audible but it is the Adjustment unit for the intake releasing (I think). My X has had that noise for 6 years and I have heard it in other later M54 and M56 engines. There is an updated unit that will probably make less noise but I would not do anything about it.

Maybe future problems on a model T... Those sons of b's really made a hoot after switching them off.

I think you are find on the X, mine does the same.

LOL, that is the self leveling rear suspension releasing air pressure when the car turns off :) I actually love the sound it makes, i open my door just to hear it everytime i get out :D

Might have something to do with my suspension light being on?

As my local mechanics can't figure out the problem, a trip to my near BMW Dealer (another province) sounds like it is in store.

Nah, the noise is normal, its sposed to release pressure when the car is off.

If i were closer to you i would help you figure out the problem, since i just fixed mine, its normally a sensor though. What yr/model x5 again?

mine does this too from the front of the car, i always figured it was the normal release of pressure? is it worth having someone look into?

My E53 did not make this noise, but I'm pretty sure you are describing the noise I have with the E53. I don't have air leveling suspension, although the sound comes from the back. :dunno:

Don't you need to open the door anyways to get out?  ;)

Its an 01 3.0i.

Sadly with the noise the rotors are making I am not driving it lately. I can't stand the circling squeeking noise and the rotors are en-route. Apparently the rotors are rusty.

Ok, its the same as mine then. You should have 3 sensors.
1 in the front (Passenger)
2 in the back (Driver and Passenger)

I would still get an indy mechanical to run the code and see where it points, otherwise your going in on a blind guess. You could change both sensors and it might not fix it, but its the normal problem, like i mentioned before, its around $90 for each complete sensor replacement.

PS: I have the same problem with the brakes, im replacing all 4 rotors and pads.
