I just got mine tinted as well. My front is only 50 percent though, the law here are pretty strict where i live.

Did you guys put the tint film by yourself or did you get it done? I am thinking about adding a tint film on my windows but I am a little bit concerned (may be wrongly) about the film interfering with the side windows up and down mechanism.

I would suggest you get an expert, nothing worse than a botched tint job.
The tint sheet will be tucked away below the rubber at the base of your windows. Interestingly, the tint guys say the X3 and new 3 series are scratching the tint film after repeated roll ups/downs, but not the X5.

Cheers,

I have an X5 that does not have the climate package. What grade of tinting should I use in each window (back, rear qtr, rear, front, windshield) to make it look like it came with the climate package? What color (black, charcoal, smoke, etc)? Also what tinting brand do you recommend?

Madico is probably the best brand. Which ever brand you get make sure that the film used is not the metalic type (which could interfere with cell phone, radar detector, and assist), the ceramic type is best (won't interfere with anything).

I have 35% all around except the windshield. I'm thinking of going darker for next summer. It's too light.

FULANITO 10-08-2005 11:11 PM

I think the tint gives the x5 a fresher look, just don't make it too dark!!! As you might have the same problem I'm having now, which is that with the dark tint and the auto dimming mirrors I can't see that well at night and sometimes have to lower my windows in order to park without hitting the curve. Therefore I decided i'm going to remove the tint and just do tthe oem tint all around.
By the way I had them tint the rear windows over the privacy glass tint that came from the factory, does anyone know if I'll be able to keep the oem tint and just have the overlay tint removed, or do both get removed by whatever it is that is used to remove it?

Another matter to remember, it seems the 05 models are now coming out with tinted side view mirrors, so if you are tinting the front windows > 50%, you will have a hard time in the evening.

Are your side view mirrors tinted, Fulanito?
