To tint or not to tint?

X5 arriving soon. My dealer says "BMW does strongly recommends not fitting tints...". I presume this is a regulator issue - but I live in a hot climate and I NEED TINTS! What to do - how big is the risk?

I got my windows tinted and everything went fine, no issues at all.

I'm thinking of doing the same! What's the issue here? why is the dealer not recommending this? anyone with an experience to share?

um its called dealership advice... aka something u never listen too... haha

kinda of how i couldnt get an aerodynamic kit put on my 4.8 even though it clearly has been done wit no issues... but my dealer told me its impossible cuz 4.8 has its own kit.... dont be like me.. its tinting its not going to void your warranty

Why the hell wouldn't you tint?!

My X5 came with the Privacy Glass in the back, and then I got the front windows tinted at 30%.

Not only does it look cool, but you won't fry in the car when you're taking a long freeway trip and the sun's scorching your arm from the side!

You should really go for it! Tinting only makes an X5 look that much better!

The only real issue is with the rear quarter window on the driver side where the FM and remote control antenna is located. You might run into radio reception issue and remote control not working properly if you use metallic film. So...the solution is to not use metallic-based tint film. But if you must prefer metallic films, then just tint that particular window using non-metallic and the rest of the car using metallic and you should be fine. Some dealers won't do anything for your radio issues if they see that you have non-OEM tint.

don't use Metalic, make sure your installer use Madico "Charcool" film as it doesn't interfere with cell phones/GPS/ and most importantly radar detectors :)

Here's a picture of my front windows tinted to exact factory match. It's a no-brainer as long as your state's inspection laws allow it. Definitely tint it, I think it completes the clean look of the car.

I have my windows tinted with no problem. I went with 20% all the way around. A little dark but you get used to it. I have privacy glass on the rear. It really helps in the summer since mine is black/black. I also have the sport package which come with the black window trims.

as long as u don't use metallic tint, ur fine.
