Fantastic information on this thread and would never have got the handle carrier out without this advice. Sadly I broke 2 in one night when both locks frozen and couldn't get in the vehicle. Didn't think I'd pulled too hard as doors wouldn't open so climbed in through the rear tailgate and it was only yesterday once temps rose that I became aware of the damage. £75 per carrier off ebay (genuine BMW). God knows what the stealer would have charged. Thanks for the advice on here

Hey guys, same thing happened to me. I was quoted $160 here at the dealership just for the part and is wondering if eBay is the cheapest? Shipping is around $30-50 to ship it to Toronto. I was wondering if there were some places that sell this with lesser shipping cost

Try autopartswarehouse.com. 160? Seems too high. I did the replacement job myself. It was tedious but easy enough. Took about two hours.

thanks amcowles,

There seems to be 2 different manufacturers for this part, but Autoparts don't ship to Canada so it's a no go.

There are some ranging from $60-100 on ebay, but it sucks that you guys get free shipping on some of them because of US and we have to pay an extra $30 to have it shipped to Canada.

Another question, does it matter if I buy aftermarket? or should I go with genuine BMW?

Thanks

Mine was aftermarket and it works great it's been a year or more since I replaced it. This where I got mine:2000-2006 BMW X5 Door Handle – Replacement REPB491302 - Rear, Driver Side, Exterior, Natural, Metal, OE replacement

Just did the rear carrier. What a B to do!! For some reason, I could not get that SOB lined up for over 30 minutes.

My driver door refused to opened today. SOB! Just like that! Checked alarm and the other doors and everything worked; excepted for the driver's door. Had to roll down the window to open from the inside. Not exactly debonaire, if you know what I mean. Anyways, I knew this problem/solution would be readily available on this board; and I was right! Well, there goes $75 and another weekend. Seriously, this X5 is becoming a POS to maintain.
