20mns by wheel, nice job! did you follow any specific instructions, may be those from the X5world forum? Sorry to bother you with all these questions but I will probably do the brake job myself when it is needed.

Strong work
The stainless steal lines are more for increase brake pressure and feel and not so much for looks. Altough they look nice if you can see them. The SS lines do not expand under load like most OEM lines do.

I can't beleive the diff. WOW 633 miles? Mine looks 10 times worse after 20 miles? Amazing!! Got to get me a set of those pads and save my back from washing the wheels twice a week....huh
Where are the rest of the pics?

Has anyone tried to get the dealer to use upgraded materials (like the Brembo) while on the free maintenance situation? I am more than willing to pay the difference between the better stuff and the OEM, to get this kind of result!

The dealer wanted $1,100 to change all 4 rotors and pads, so I decided to do it my self and with better rotors and pads since it will still be cheaper than the stealer.

The install was very easy thanks to Hayaku and Kewl article on how to change the brakes, see the link below
http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...icle&artid=196

got all the parts from http://www.importrp.com/home.php they have good prices and they were fast to ship my parts.

Parts # and prices

Front (Pair) - Brembo Sport CROSS-DRILLED Brake Rotors part# 35535 $180

Rear (Pair) - Brembo Sport CROSS-DRILLED Brake Rotors part# 35523 $148

PBR/Axxis Deluxe FRONT Brake Pad Set part# D 1620 R/4 $60

PBR/Axxis Deluxe REAR Brake Pad Set part# D 936 R/5 $30

BMW brake sensor front and back( from the stealer ) set $48

Paint caliper kit red ( from local Auto Zone ) $15

Shipping cost: UPS ground (5 to 7 business day) $59.21

TOTAL $540.21

I had 2 choices, to install it my self or have a friend shop do it for $180

I installed it my self with the help of a friend who has another shop :D saved a lots of money and have better brakes than the OEM one :D ..

Note we were not able to put the X5 on the lift since we didn’t want to put pressure on the aero kit which covers all the edges of the under side of the truck, so we ended up using the jack :tsk: .

After the installation it was time to bed the pads and rotors.

Bedding in new pads and rotors

Find a nice long high way (it was about 10:00 pm so we had no problems finding a high way with low traffic) and fallow these nice instructions on bedding in new pads and rotors http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm

I’m very happy with the results, more stopping power + less brake dust and saved about $525

will post a few more pics later ( I had lots of pics on the install but my wife was using the camera and deleted them :O(

so, what's the difference between this brake upgrade and the big brake kits that TireRack sells for $2000+? did u retain the OEM calipers? also, does Axxis make front pads for 4.6is'?

1-the big brake kit has bigger rotors so you will need to have 20 in wheels on your X plus the rotors are not drilled, the holes are part of the cast, while the rotors i got are drilled on the rotors.

2- i didn`t use the OEM pad, i used Axxis delux pads

3 - yes Axxis have pads for the 4.6i

ok. will this upgrade (rotors) benefit a 4.6is? also, i think u missed my question about the calipers though. did u use the OEM calipers? where did u find front pads for the 4.6is? i see that they list rear pads, but not front? :dunno:
