I looks like Medusa look at my vehicle. So much salt, and I don't dare try to wash it off yet. Currently -6 with -20 wind.

My black car looks white. Same thing in reverse. We are 6 above though.

Can you open your doors?

My three month old silver E61 looks white as well.

The car wash places in the NYC area recycle wash water so getting it washed won't fully clean the car.

As far a cold weather issues with the 2005 X5 or the 2008 E61 both cars always start fine no matter how cold.
I think old cars are more prone to issues.

my oxford green was completely transformed white but my car would start fine except the door for the front passenger was hard to open

My car looks like that too. I'm actually investing in a foam gun and pressure washer and so I can just foam the car with car wash soap and pressure wash it real quick to get all the salt off. Then when the weather is alittle more tolerable, I'll do a full wash. At least with the foam gun and pressure washer I can get most of the salt off the paint, wheels and wheel wells and undercarriage.

I tried the antifreeze trick, and it did seem to work. But, I am still afraid to wash since all of that water might get water into the doors and freeze again.

Well your X5 is parked in the right space.

A paint shop will need to provide X5 Oncology treatment if that crap remains there very long.
