Anybody tried Cooper tires or Kumho tires on their X5?
 

I've been looking at replacing my tires on my X5 sometime later this year. Both Cooper and Kumho have very attractive prices, and I was wondering if any of you guys have tried them on your X5?

Specifically, the Cooper Discoverer HT Plus at $111.00 per tire, and the Kumho Road Venture at $128 per tire looks pretty good.

I guess my choice of "premium" tire would be the Bridgestone Dueler Alenza, but the price jumps to $185 per tire. Not unreasonable...yet I hate to spend the extra bucks if the Cooper or Kumho are just as good.

i am riding on Kumho SOLUS KR21 all season tire 265 60 17 for the winter and
they very smooth and handle just as good as all snow tires out there.

I recommend you look at the user ratings on TireRack to see how these models fare in real-world use. I got 20" General Grabber UHP tires for my new wheels based on the user reviews. They were about $150 each.

Yep, I've spent a good deal of time on tirerack. They don't sell Cooper, though they do sell Kumho. I suppose I was hoping to get some X5-specific comments from folks here that might have used either of those brands.

IMO spend the extra money and get the Vredestein Ultratracs

Initial Review, 15,000 Miles on Tires

I purchased these tires after not being satisfied with the X5's Continentals that came with the car. The continental's were horrible on light packed snow and ice. I like to drive rather spirited, although it seems to be slightly ahead of the pack which is pushing 80mph, typically. On dry weather the tires are great. Damp roads or light rain, also great. Put down an inch of water though, and you better keep the car under 60 unless you like to water ski. Maybe it is due to the wide tires on this car, but I was unimpressed. Have not had much snow to drive in, but what I did experience was handled well. I used to drive through a construction site up some very steep gravel paved hills, and had no problem in the mud or dry dirt. In fact, in pouring rain, these grabbed better than they did on pavement. VG mud tire. I may be expecting more from the tire than is reasonable, and it may be more due to the vehicle. I don't like to drive on tires with less than half the life left, and these are reaching that point fast, with only 15,000 logged. Not the best tread wear. Overall for the money, they are a great value. I could easily have paid twice what these cost.

Not available from TireRack, AFAICT. I recommend that anyone looking for tires also consider the General Grabber UHPs based on the user reviews there. No complaints so far here and a great value :thumbup:

I guess the reason that I posted, is because on our other vehicles I've always used Michelin Cross Terrains or Goodyear Forterras - well, that and my wife's 4Runner has Brigestone Duelers on it.

They've all been decent all-season tires, but on the pricey side. If I could spend $120/tire this time instead of $180/tire, that would be nice. The thing about tires is that you can't really try them on and see if you like them. Once you buy them, you're stuck with them for at least a couple years, for better or worse.

I use the Kuhmo tires on my X5. I have the 4.4i and the tires are 255/55/18 in size. I sell wheels and tires as a private seller. My company is Unique Customs Wheels & Tires. I am a New Member and recent owner of used 2006 Stratus Gray 3.0. I was in the same boat for a I needed to replace my tires and is budget constrained. It was either the Kumho Ventus or Cooper XST-A. I decided on the cooper one due to the look/tread design.

First impressions.

Ride is very QUIET cant tell the difference from the stock Michellins. Grip and cornering definately improved a lot. Could also be the fact they are new tires. I will post more information as soon as I put more miles on the tire.

I was a little worried for they are the first non Michellin or Goodyear Fortera tires I have owned. But I am definately a happy customer. Will post pictures of the tire when I have a chance.
