My Brother in law has owned many cars. He leases. Currently has the new 4.8. I asked him how he liked it and he told me the best SUV he has owned was the Cayenne Turbo, both in terms of build quality and fun. I never drove either. Just sharing what he said.

On forums there are nothing but problems because people come to the forum to get help with problems they are having. A lot of x5's are trouble free. An example is motordavid's x5. His has been trouble free since I have been on this forum and I think it's a 2001 too.

so what do you guys think about 2004 porsche cayenne s

BMWLOVER 01-27-2009 03:46 PM

I really like the cayenne but I don't know much about the reliability or anything. Check out some cayenne forums to learn about some problems it might have.

Your comparing 3 v6's with a v8. I personally would take the cayenne because of v8 but if it were 4.4i or 4.8is x5 then definitely the x5.

I looked at the VW, and the thing that kept me away was the over abundant of complaints I read about brake wear, and the replacement cost. Edmunds.com, KBB.com, consumerreports.com, VW forums, etc. all had complaint after complaint about how fast the brakes wear and how expensive it is to replace them.

That is the only expensive part I have on the car it's 1600 for a full brake job. Very expensive. Then again I wonder what a full NON-BMW Paid brake job (after 4/50) would be?

2nd on the MDX for reliability and maintanence. Beware of bad trannies on the 2001-2003 MDX though. 4k repair @100K miles or so

BMWLOVER 01-28-2009 02:01 AM

If your looking at full out reliability I think you should at Japanese vehicles.
