I'm not sure how fast will I get a response but I'm 250KM away from home and my X5 locked with my keys inside. Wondering if anyone can help. Sigh...what a day..

Could someone please pm me the procedure to get into my X5 should my battery go dead? After I replaced my door handle carrier my key hole on the door handle does not work. I probably didn't reinstall it properly but I remember how big of a PITA it was just to get it screwed back in so I really haven't had the desire to figure out what the problem is.

Also, a few weeks ago my key fob didn't seem to want to work until it was literally touching the windshield. So, if someone could please send me the info it would be very much appreciated. I know my post count is not very high but its only because every time I log on I am trying to find out how to fix something! (LOL)

Bumping this thread trying to get an answer for a friend in STL who called me about a 2000 X5 that has an inoperative remote and apparently a broken door lock. The lock on the driver's door moves to the lock position, but not to the unlock. Two keys tried, neither works. Autohaus BMW in STL wants $500 to get into the car. Anyone willing to help with the answer here?

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Even though I responded to Jeff by PM, a note of thanks in public for the assistance.

locked out, please help

this never gets old... My wife managed to break the single door lock X5 has last week and now this afternoon, the car gave an engine fail safe warning and locked us out. We have a service appointment however we may need the car over the weekend (not to mention how to take it down to the dealer). Can someone please PM the instructions? Thanks in advance.

Emailed you some options, Erik.

lessons learned

Thanks for the DIY instructions however I was not able to open the door after a day's effort. So I called BMW and got the contact of the towing company. I explained the situation on the phone and told him to bring a locksmith along. The locksmith magically opened the trunk in less than 5 mins. His procedure was similar to mine except that I was concentrating on the central lock and the inside door handle. My car battery was good, the remote access was not working and the door lock was kaput. If you are in the similar situation, I will be happy to pass along the lessons learned. I paid around $180 but it was well worth it after having tried myself in scorching heat.
