UPDATE: I replaced the valve about 2 weeks ago, I could tell that the pump wasn't doing anything, so I ordered a pump on ebay. Pump came in last Thursday. Swapped it out on Sunday, yesterday morning the light shut itself off. This whole project cost me $205 and 45 mins of my time. The dealer wanted over $1500. WOW!

Wow, $205 for both valve and pump? That's really cheap.

yeah, 105 on the value from these guys (BMW Parts, VW Parts & European Auto Parts| Racing Pro Shop - Above All Motorwerks) and I got a used pump on ebay for $100 shipped.

Good luck with your swap when you get your parts

Brit6: Do you still have the pump? I would like to buy it from you if you still have it. Thanks.

By the way, I changed the valve yesterday and the light came back on today. So I guess the problem is from my pump. I swear I could hear it going on cold starts but I don't know what else could be wrong.

500 bucks for an air pump. no way.2004 BMW X5 Air Pump - Air Intake - Hella - PartsGeek iv'e dealt with these guys and been hoppy. az auto house is also good

By the way, I noticed on a cold start today that the "air box" is making a loud noise. Could the problem be from the air box and not the air pump?

Tony: I still have it yes. Do you still have your old valve?

I have noticed one thing though, it seems that when people have this problem they always have to replace the pump and the valve. Has anyone only ever changed just one or the other?

I havn't bothered to order the valve yet

I still have the old valve and you can use it to see if it fixes your problem.

Ok, let me know when you want to meet up.

Which part of Ottawa do you live in? I live at Hunt Club and Conroy.
