The lovely wet passenger floorboard!
Looks like I've joined the club of a wet passenger floorboard.
After doing some research here, I've found that that the passenger sunroof drain is blocked. I can't understand how that much water made it into the car though. I don't see any drips under the glovebox or wetness around the a-pillar. It looks to be concentrated on the floorboard and outside by the trim near the door. Any ideas where to look? The blockage in the sunroof appears to be about 3-6 inches into the hole and I can't get it unblocked. I've tried an air hose and trimmer line. When I get an air gun on it, I can feel air coming out the bottom. Same goes if I blow up from the bottom. It's not the same airflow as the drivers side though, so I know something is up. Water will not drain on the passenger side.. it just sits in the sunroof. I can't get the trimmer line to go past this blockage, but when I blow air I do see some water come out the bottom of the car. Any ideas on what to try to clear this blockage? What is the route the water would take to get into the car if it's blocked near the opening in the sunroof? Wouldn't I see something wet on the headliner or a-pillar? Thanks in advance for the help. I'm researching as much as I can on here and have the carpet drying with a fan while I continue to find the problem. It's hard for me to believe that much water got in because of a clogged drain (how does |
Can you post some pictures?

i have seen a thread regarding sunroof drains with instructions and pictures a while back so keep searching . all four doors famously leak also so what i did to cure door leak was to seal base of door cards where they contact door then drill holes in door card and glue thin plastic tubes into holes so that when door is closed the tubes allow water to go past frame seals .

Pics of the problem, and what you've done so far and where. Once we get it solved it would make a great write-up for future readers. It's also much easier for people to help you if they can see the problem.

I'll take some pics as I am going through this.. The tech here is great and I'd be glad to help others by posting a write-up when done.
It's most of the way apart now, just need to figure out how to get the map light console area off so I can pull down the headliner and take a peak. |
Great. Take a look on the home page at the write-up for installing the garage door opener unit.

Once you get the headliner pulled down you will see the drain hose attached to the sunroof cassette. You could pull it off and maybe feel the blockage and work it out the top. (I've even seen acorns make it in there somehow)
And when drying the carpet... don't forget about the deep foam attached to the bottom that holds more water than a shamois sponge. You will need to pull the carpet up a bit and ring out the foam, then prop it up and aim the fan under it. (I've seen people get the top completely dry, then the water underneath midlews and smells like crap) |
Hey weasel - can that foam be removed or is it glued down?
