DONT NEED AN X PIPE

WHAT I DONT UNDERSTAND IS THE FAct that all of you guys are installing
an x pipe for the 4.4 (SPORT PACKAGE) THE 4.6 AND 4.8 THAT HAVE GOT AN ATTRACTIVE standart sound

can someone tell me why????

standard sound is so, i dunno, standard. it did have a nice sound, now it has a great sound. make a little more rumble, little deeper, and it kept me outta trouble for a Saturday. (actually two saturdays, i had some welding touch up)

it may be me, but i think it idles better too.

Well, there is a difference in the stock 4.8is sound vs. the x-piped 4.8is sound. One is nice and pleasant. Very middle of the road "sporty". Not too aggressive, but lets you know its there. The x-pipe mod turns this grocery getter/baby hauler into a aggressive kick ass sounding V8 mean machine. After the X-pipe install, my 4.8is sounds more aggressive than an E39 M5 and closer to the E60 M5. Very nice IMO.

:iagree: some of us like to mod. some of us like the sound of a v8 wide open.

After hearing that youtube video of the x-pipe and Dinan exhaust, I think I know what I want for X-mas!

Does the stock resonator that the x-pipe replaces have a crossover in it?

Not really, it is 2 perforated tubes straight through with all the stuffing/baffling around them. So they're not fully separated but not fully connected.

Ok, so there is some pressure stabilization between cylinder banks. The reason I was asking was because I've heard straight pipes (no crossover) is actually louder than with a crossover. Heard any x5s with a straight pipe mod as opposed to x pipe?
