cavX5 -

NY law is 70%
I'm not even sure what the meter looks like on STOCK OEM Glass but the correct info for you FWIW is 70%.

And it's not during these economic times....while I have seen some silly revenue stops on ON RAMPS ) I digress---but generally on this onramp, you are doing easy 30-45 to get up to speed to merge on the parkway ...and there is a LEO standing right in the middle of it.

If you put any tint in the front, in NY you will have the chance of being pulled over and meterd bearing the 70%

I've been chased down and pulled over on a parkway (knowing I was not speeding) and I was metered on my windows......go figure, but I would assume the latter, and he would rather wait for a speeder to come around the bend. And this occured 2 year ago, before out econ. went bust.

Actually, that's a good question. Don't know if it depends on the point-of-destination, because every State/Province/Country has their own "tinting" laws. It may also depend on what packages you order, i.e. Sports, Premium, etc. What I do know is that my 2006 came with almost no tinting, so I had to go after-market. Anyone else want to chime in?

Per the instrument, my fronts were 28%...the officer mentioned that i was close enough to the 35% NYC limit and let me go.

Thats awesome! I thought, as in NJ, you can not have ANY tint on the front two windows??? NYC is different or am I wrong on both???

I had 30% on my old 2002 X5 and it matched hte factory very well. It was #m's normal window film, nothing crazy.

Good luck and night time is dark through front window tint!!! I prefer a nice middle ground like 20-30% for my cars.

My 3 series has 30% on Silver-grey with black leather and it looks damn dark.

Good luck!

Your source is outdated, "Updated: Jan 16 2007". I suggest checking with your respective state DMV for accurate limits.

JCAPX5...not familiar with NJ limit, but as i mentioned, i drove away from an NYC ticket with 28% on my fronts.

This is the best tint guy in the area. Has the newest tint nonsense filament that lasts forever and doesnt fade, bubble or whatever tint use to do, now doesnt. lolol....i dont know i thought it was all the same...

My cousin recommended this guy Phil and he has done all my cars like no one else. There use to be a guy in Mount Vernon who use to care about tint but seeemd to get to commercialized and expensive..

This guy is cheap and I have seen MAry j blidge there and tyson beckford get thier cars done there....

20% is NOT too dark. Best for balance of looks and visibility is 20% IMO. Looks nice and dark from outside, but still great visibility from inside. However, if you want to stay "legal" for NYC, go with 35% fronts and 20% for rears. It still blends well going from 35% to the 20% on the rears. Cetainly looks better than no tints on the fronts and 20% on the rears.

As far as reputable installers, I did mine in NJ. If you don't mind crossing the river, go to Top of the Line Tint in Lodi. Ask for Phil. Unbelievably professional job! (Ask for the 3M lifetime tint, never ever fades).

I also used Phil at Top of the Line and he did an awesome job on our E46 M3. He's a great guy too and had a nicely modded M3 so you know he's got the Bimmer love too!

Good luck!
