My guess would be a sway-bar endlink. Common problem, but very cheap and easy to fix. Think <10min to replace one yourself.

Ummmm this is a clear scam of some sort. No one is going to sell a 2001 x5 for 5000 in good working condition. Seriously, x5's in Canada are more expensive than those in US, and I don't think anyone would sell one in the US for 4000 unless it had 200,000 miles on it.

But he said it's from his friends parents, so he knows them and the vehicle personally.

I findeed it is in as good condition as it seems, that would be a steal! And all the major repairs have been done!

oh no scam what so ever.. ive knowen the family for years.. they know im a bmw enthusiaste.. ive owned 2 e30's and 1 e28 535i... i've worked with him for a year also.... honestly they just want it gone.. im going to buy it monday, and will post pics soon to follow.. also hes going to include 20'' beyern wheels staggerd with bf goodrich 315's in the rear 275's in the front. both brand new rubber.. also included is a set of stock wheels with new winter rubber...

I say 'go for it' after reviewing maintenance docs and if you can you get an independant inspection done by someone familiar with Bimmers and in particular X5's ??

With a clean exterior & interior plus a new tranny in place (+ 20" Beyern) it sounds like you're on a winner there.

What colour ?? as early X5's had some unique colours in the mix.

Honestly guys I don't really understand why this thread is going. This question was just so dumb? Would you buy a 4000US x5 with only about 87k miles on it that is in good running condition. You can't even buy a Chevy Tahoe for that price so i think it is a no brainer, I think 4000 would be the price for an x5 with a blown engine/trans in good condition otherwise. Personally i'm not going to read this thread anymore. My 110k, km, 04 x5 just cost me 26k Canadian... And I think that was a good deal comparative to prices around here..... PS I just sold my 2001 durango with 230,000KM and a severe front end collision for 5400 Canadian and the buyer was quite happy with it. So really I re-iterate, why if the price is so low do you need a confidence boster here?

Maybe your a troll when I re-read this, and you say he is including another set of rims + new rubber that costs almost half the price of the car, plus another set of rims with winter tires and are still asking for validation I have to question here. If this is all legit and what you say is true than go for it man. Smoking deal. Spend the thousands you just saved modding the hell out of it!!!!! :)

if the owner spent $20,000 on repairs i think you should buy it as soon as possible
that car could be worth more selling parts but just keep it running .
