01 4.4i questions.. need advice asap.

currently looking at a 01 4.4i a friends parents bought it new from the dealer.. 1 owner until now... roughly 136,000 kms a binder full of mantinence records all done at the dealer... includes new tranny not to long ago, new rear air suspention.. and crap load of other stuff.. they dont know much about cars, just that if there was somrthing that didnt seem right they would take it to the dealer for a diagnosis and services... they want 5000 canadian for it.. whyich is about 4000US
should i snag this X ?
anything i should be aware of when looking at it....?
they are really desperate to get ride of it because they have 4 other vehicles m3, 2 range rovers, and f150... i guess the reason for selling was it was they were sick of taking it to the dealer and spending thousands of dollars in labour everytime.... i talked to him today and he said he was going to send it to the wreckers tomorrow... i thought he was crazy it still runs smooth near perfect interior and no body damage..

any opinions would be great
thanks,

If the price is right, it's a no brainer since the trans was replaced relatively recently.

That would be reason enough for me not to buy it - even if the transmission was replaced.

Although if he's taking it to the wrecker anyway, it might be worth $1k or so to take it off his hands and part it out. Saves him the time and expense of taking it to the wreck yard. :dunno:

If it is in as good a condition as you seem to suggest, with all service records and work done at dealership, buying it at $5k is a no brainer for that car.

i got one and feel like taking it to the crusher
i would still buy that one for 5000 can dollars
i paid lots more for mine and lots more for repairs

well you know poeple that dont know anything about vehicles.. as soon as they hear a strange noise they tak it to the dealer... also dealers always make you replace stuff that might last a couple more years by saying this is worn should we go ahead and replace it even tho its still an ok part... but we will see im not going to get to excited... i will post back with details...
thanks everyone.

people get pissed taking x5 to dealer every 2 months and spending $$$ , i know i do but you will probably be buying a good car now ,
i did same stuff with my 740i at 140,000 miles , a buddies old dad drives it now and it`s still the best car in the world , unfortunately the early x5 seems to have problems but once repaired could be very good . i did say COULD be .

alright heres th verdict.. i took it for a test drive.. the X had plenty of power. started fine, temp guage never moved past half. interior all in tact no rips.. body has no scratches or dents.. fog light is broken. no rust..
engine bay seemed clean no oil leaks i noticed..
i looked under the car at the suspention components.. no rips it ball joints, steering rack boots, ect. i think i counted about 20,000$ in repairs from when they bought it..
only thing i noticed that i was unsure about was... when i was driving at a normal city street speed and i would weave back and forth left to right.. i would here a small clunking noise, does anyone know what this could be or any idea how much it would cost to fix.?

ideas appretiated
thanks
Mitch
