I would just trade the car for a black one. Unless it has been wrecked, in which case, paint it whatever you want.

I think you've gotten honest feedback. It might not be what you want to hear but it's honest. Repainting your factory painted X5 would lead to diminished value and possible more difficulty in selling it down the road. Very few, if any, body shop paint jobs will be anywhere near as good as the factory spray and it could wind up bubbling, peeling, or generally last as long.

Personally, I would not do it nor would I buy a used vehicle that has been repainted as you plan. I would question why it was done (major accident/damage?) and how it was done (Earl Scheib or Maaco?).

If you go the Maaco route you should two-tone it like the old 1980's Suburban.:rofl::rofl::rofl::bustingup:bustingup

The honest part is all good.

I appreciate everyones opinion

If anyone wants to trade for a sterling gray 2004 4.4 with 4.8is look,
for a 4.8is saphire black or jet black, let me know.

Just an FYI, BMW uses only waterborne paints, prep and clear coats. You would need to use only BMW paint for any kind of longevity.

RE: MAACO:
Right out of School, I had a 62 Merc. Did the prep, paint to the metal, hand sanded the primer coats and took it to Maaco. The guy smiled, said he loves this car and noted the diligent work. Said they will take care of it. They did at that. The paint they laid was flawless. The old Mercury "black cherry" color.(similar to 1960's Ford Burgundy) AWEsome.
