Dear mtX5, was your HID foglight no problem? i have got the answer with my headlight, it is the LCM promblem, i am lucky that i have an electronic engineer, he found that there is a small capacitor bad on the LCM, so i changed the driving pin , by now there is no problem.
for your problem, first i recommend that you separately connect the hid fog lights directly to the battery , if the lights can get on, it means there is no problem with lights themselves, then you need to check each component, like ballast. some electronic components may have problems under hot or cold weather or high humidity weather. |
WANGCH,
thanks for the tip. i ordered capacitors and tried those, and i had no success with them. Lightwerkz also suggested connecting them to the battery, but i don't think that is a project i can tackle on my own. i might be paying lightwerkz a visit, or ordering new ballasts and bulbs. the problem never happened with the OEM ballasts. i was also considering switching back to OEM D2S setup, because i think i read somewhere that you can by an adapter to fit the bulb (for example an H7 adapter that will allow the D2S bulb to fit) not too sure about that though.. |
mtX5, you can just disassemble the bad fog light with wire and connect the wire to the battery with manual control to see whether there is still problem, it is not difficult to do that, in China when i went to the light store, they just do as this quite easy.

its the lowbeams not foglight. but if you can give me more detailed instructions then maybe i can attempt it..

i cant believe you still have this issue Mo, good luck...

apparently its a pretty common issue when you do some research. its an effect of having aftermarket HIDs. I took all the necessary steps needed, including purchasing capacitors and trying those out, but they did not resolve the issue. the more expensive, but guaranteed fix is a new wiring harness (connected to the battery or something?), or swapping out the HID ballast and bulb for a new one (don't think thats the issue though). either way, i've been very busy and only had time to try the capacitors. I dont NEED the lowbeams as i drive with just the HID fogs anyway (looks cooler and provides enough light). i may take it in to a shop to check it out when i'm ready to spend $$, otherwise i'm holding off for now because i can see fine at night, and i'm considering maybe (a BIG maybe) getting a new bimmer in the upcoming months, if financial situations allow lol. and i'm still open to any other suggestions. Lightwerkz has been a great help so far, while a member or two accused me of making this whole thing up for attention (kind of dissapointing and insulting) .. oh well. |
If it were me I would likely end up powering them through relays with battery power, which would stop the flickering problems but would give you the bulb out warnings on the dash... Maybe you should just try some regular old sylvania silverstar halogens or something...?

but my X came with xenons..i was never planning on losing that feature when upgrading to these headlights. honestly Dave @ Custom Angel Eyes is not as good as many of us might have thought. Once issues pop up he dissappears. My right angel eyes are a bit weaker, and I have had this xenon issue since the day i got the headlights from him, and about 7 months later, he is still claiming to be working on getting me replacements.. so im 'waiting' for his replacement products

I am beginning to think the best bet for pre facelift X5's then is to get pre 10/02 headlights and mod them... then you have all the OEM functionality and can control the outcome yourself. I love the way mine came out.
