Did it start after about 30 to 50 miles? New rims have a recommended re-torque after 30 to 50 driven miles. Worth a shot.

I've had 2 separate problems which caused similar shaking.

The first one was at higher speeds, a shaking in the steering wheel that led to the replacement of my lower control arms and bushings. That ran me about $900.

The second one, about a year later, would show up after being in stop-and-go traffic, a distinct shaking in the steering wheel while braking. It turned out to be a bad right front caliper that wasn't releasing all the way. It in turned heated up and warped the rotor. That fix was another $1,100.

I think I would be changing my repairer if I were you! :wow:

There could not really be much wrong with the arms unless the balljoints were shot and the bushes are only about $50 and its an hours job tops.

As for the brakes, the caliper caused the problem with the disc. The caliper had overheated the disc and this alone would cause judder. New discs, pads and a caliper at $1100 sounds about $400 too much to me but I am basing it on UK £ prices.
